Penn doesn’t get enough credit for how brilliant of a speaker he is. This guy can talk nonstop for days and still command everyone’s attention in the room the entire time.

Very true. But at the same time, not enough credit to Teller, a true master at sleight of hand.

Teller has spoken about the artistry and effect of not speaking during performances (besides the college story). His performances are beautiful and feel magical and dramatic without the speaking. And it adds a lot of fun to their act together that one of them doesn't speak. I think he wanted Penn to say a little more on the topic when he was answering the question, lol. Their act together is so good in general that even with "travel" props, they are such a delight to watch. Aluminum foil, plastic cups, a baseball, contacts, and a deck of cards.

That’s what is beautiful about their comedy/magic presentation. They show the simple methods, thus daring magicians to come up with new variations. They are quite literally forcing innovation by revealing the basics publicly, and it’s working.

Penn always forces the three of clubs. The only tricky bit was making Tom Jones pick it. All the rest was just for show. Probably even the force was straight forward for a good conjuror.

Every time P&T let the victim "pick" random card and it's 3 of clubs, I think it's just a hint to fans that "yes, this was a forced card, but let's see what happens now".

In 1977 I bought a sleight of hand book. A lot of it was really hard, as I was only 8 and my hands were really small. Not only that, Star Wars came out that year and hijacked the playtime of all children. I learned how to juggle quite easily, but card tricks (utilizing sleight of hand) were very difficult. I wasn't bad with coins. I am now 54, married, with two wonderful adult children and a lot of friends...all because I didn't pursue magic.
