Penn Station Access Project to bring new Metro-North stations to Bronx

A transit project on the drawing board for more than 30 years finally gets a green light. The Bronx is getting four new Metro-North stations, and the work is underway. CBS2 political reporter Marcia Kramer has the story.

The Bronx needs better crosstown trains. This is a good transit investment but the region should embrace polycentric development in the post COVID, WFH era.

Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx all need to be connected with cross borough trains. The Bronx definitely needs direct train access to LaGuardia and John F. Kennedy Airports.

@@r.d.9399 there should be a subway tunnel under Long Island Sound connecting Bronx and Queens. The lack of alternatives for those trips (especially on transit) would induce a ton of demand. A line connecting the new Metro North station and #6 Train in Parkchester to College Point and the #7 in Flushing would be amazing. Then it could extend to Jamaica and JFK in Queens and go cross-Bronx on Fordham Ave.

Extended the 6 Pelham line to co op city because Pelham Bay park is definitely getting over Crowding just like main street Flushing . All they have to do is to build a over pass the highway just like they did on the Thrid Avenue Elevated line cross Bronx . Leave the B D QT trains alone And focus on extended the 6 Pelham line to co op city mall connecting to the Metro North railroad Connecticut.

It's push them to the Bronx or out of state where they become first come first serve and bypass anyone else on the waiting list when they move out of state with a voucher. They can't add anything in queens that line is all above grand and no stations are in that area because of the hight above ground that hells gate line is, this was first talked about when I was in IS 98 junior high school in the Bronx back in the mid 90s and the main reason they didn't go alone with it is people from Connecticut didn't want anyone from the Bronx getting on the trains they felt it was more than enough buses and trains people in the Bronx could take to get into Manhattan. Funny thing metro north the NH line only stops at Fordham Rd in the Bronx for the same reason they didn't want to do this on that line so sad

Not too excited about this. This is a suburban project pushed by the MTA. East Bronx should have had a link using this ROW via the Second Ave SUBWAY extension. Politics kept getting in the way, stopping the subway project. East Bronx won't truly benefit from this route because it will lack connectivity to the CITY RAPID transit system..plus they will have to PAY METRO NORTH HIGHER FARES...PLUS PAY CITY TRANSIT FARES TO CONTINUE ANY FURTHER TRAVEL. NYC TRANSIT RIDERS aren't winning here, but suburban riders are.

Also, how about the New Haven trains that are full of passengers coming from Connecticut? Crowded trains ? Resentment? Yes, you definitely will see more "entitled suburbanites" feeling some kinda way on "their railroad". I'll say it again, this is NOT a good transit plan, nor is it good for the people of the Bronx. This is a suburban project, and the Politians had to gas it up as a win for NYC to smoke screen the real purpose.
