This video shows how to take apart and service the relatively rare Penn Senator 2/0 and explains how it differs from the Long Beach 65 fishing reel.

    The reel my grandfather gave me before he passed! It had a bad eccentric spring that I replaced, and I replaced the drags and cleaned and re lubed the reel and it ran like brand new. I gave it to my dad for Christmas for rockfish! Mine had a green handle just like the one in the video. A beautiful reel as rare as it is. Good video Dennis!! Been looking forward to this one.

    Dennis, thanks! I'm working on an upgrade of one of these, with a stainless gear sleeve, aluminum spool and power handle. It is also possible to put slightly faster gears in it. I really appreciate your video, especially the "magic" at the end when putting the yoke, clutch, dog, sping in. Boy that takes practice! I want one of those Tani wrenches.

    Great tutorial Dennis!! I own a bunch of high end casting reels...Zzeta and QTC parts, etc. My BEST 8 n' bait beach reels are a couple of 1/0 Senators that I have tuned and put aluminum spools in. You would have a great chuckle if you saw the effort and parts that went into them...machine work too. They cast EXTREMELY well...both spin well over 60 seconds loaded. The thing I love most about them is that to an untrained eye they look pretty much stock. Anyway...I love your tutorials. To tune a reel it has to be functional in the first place and you have enabled me immeasurably! Cheers!

    Not sure. These can be installed with or without great. If the drags are showing wear, I will normally use the grease. If there is no wear, they can be left alone. I think these were recently replaced if I recall the video. Thanks for the note - Dennis

    Hello Sr, what is the difference between 3/0 and 2/0? The jigmaster is stronger than the 2/0? Thanks and sorry for so many questions! Thanks!!!

  • @2ndChanceTackle

    @2ndChanceTackle

    2 жыл бұрын

    The 2/0 is very similar to the Long Beach 65 with an extra trim ring. The 3/0 has a larger spool capacity. That is the basic difference. The Jigmaster has a single take apart screw for each service and it has a higher retrieve speed. The Jigmaster and the 3/0 are about the same size and line capacity - Dennis

    Kenny - I use a cheap Amazon cleaner with about a 1-2 Quart/Liter capacity. Mine cost around $65 on Amazon. I use it several times a week and it has done what it should for over a year now. I only use it on fishing reels and parts, so I do not need the larger capacity that folks that clean engine parts or other machine parts would need. Thanks for asking - Dennis

    @@2ndChanceTackle Thanks for the quick reply Dennis. That's all I would use it for. Especially bearings and stuff you can't clean well. My family has equipment going back to my Grandfather from like the 1940s-50s, maybe earlier! The lived on City Island and were fisherman there. Mostly all old Penn stuff. My father swears by anything Penn! Thanks again

    How does this compare to the standard jig master?

  • @2ndChanceTackle

    @2ndChanceTackle

    4 жыл бұрын

    There is very little in common between these two reels other than they were made by Penn. The 2/0 is low speed, narrow spool and fixed side plates. The Jigmaster is a higher speed reel with larger gears and drag washers. It has a narrower spool diameter, but a wider frame and it features the single take apart screw for quick removal of the gear side plate. Thanks for asking Dennis
