Can we just take a moment to appreciate that all the things Lady Featherington told Penelope were bad if she wanted a good match are ALL the things her and Colin share and have joy together in her marriage. Her writing, her wit, her knowledge and the fact she’s well read.

Which he brings up in Romancing Mr. Bridgerton when confronting Lady Featherington about dismissing Penelope. Book spoilers, somewhat, but I love how he calls her out and says he loves Penelope's humor, intelligence, and how "lovely" she is as a person. I hope we get this scene in S3 because it's going to be AWESOME and a moment of possible redemption for Colin.

At this point, I don’t blame Penelope for writing the truth about her family especially with a Mother who doesn’t see her gifts

I honestly hope they portray the scene where Colin asks for permission to marry Penelope exactly like the book. Portia needs someone to smack her down to size 😤 😅

And I hope that Colin marries Pen off before Prudence is married. Because Prudence clearly needs Pen to succeed over her. And I absolutely hope that Pen and Colin will have a son before Phillippa has. Because that would be Pens final victory. 😄

And as Lady Featherington in the series had Varley forge a signature that the first born grandson will inherit the house that is why I hope that in the series this first born grandson will be Pens son 😉

yeah my favorite scene and this the erased felicity i'm sacred it won't happen but prudence could replace her 🤣

I didn’t read the books, so I don’t know how Portia is there; but honestly, in the series I kind of like her. Yeah, she has her moments but most of the things she says are not really aimed at Penelope so much as they are just a product of the time and world they live in. What also struck me is that she never forced Penelope to do something about her weight, like forcing her to diet or to wear ugly dresses to conceal her figure. And when it came down to deciding between her own happiness and that of her daughters she went full mother bear and drove out a man that could ruin her family. Like; she may not be the best mom, but she could definitely be WAY worse.

My opinion: In the books Portia is more hurtful than in the show, in the sense that she doesn't *see* Penelope, and values literally everyone else above her. She is not overtly mean, but thoughtless.

I also hope to see Colin stand up to Lady Featherington like in the books.

This reminds me of a girl I knew at school. She was so kind and shy and she helped me with maths homework that I couldn’t get to grips with. When I went to her house, her mother systematically humiliated her, belittled her and was sarcastic with nearly everything she said. The thing is my friend was so used to it that it wasn’t even registering anymore. There are so many people being routinely emotionally abused within the family setting and it affects people’s lives forever.

Poor Penelope. I don’t blame her for becoming Lady Whistledown.

Amongst all the bridgerton books, I always love Romancing Mr Bridgerton simply because of Penelope. Honestly I always thought of her as the main character since she's the Lady whistledown

It breaks my heart to see this little love suffering in EVERYONE's hands.

Honestly Lady Featherington is my favorite character in the show. She's awful but cracks me up

The thing is, how lady Featherington wants her daughters to act is what most of the rich suitors did want at that time. Having a love match was the exception, not the rule (though being well-read is a good thing, so that is confusing even for me). The marriage market was ruthless. That's why Jane Austen became a spinster. Lady Featherington just wants her daughters to live comfortably by finding them a husband who can provide for them. Even if they end up in a loveless marriage they will find "small joys" (I think that's what she said when talking to Marina). Only too bad that her daughters can't sing, play the piano, etc. And I must say I love Penelope and her mother both immensely, although they are so vastly different.

I also saw under another post someone say that it was insulting in and of itself that she didn't marry Penelope off to Colin when she caught them alone in a room together. She didn't even think twice about it lol.

That little long suffering sigh at the end, though... Omg I just love Penelope so much

and she still expects her to stay and be her companion in her old age

Ngl Portia is so iconic to me, i love her so much. The things she says she is like a Kardashian, she would thrive in modern era like, she would be a celebrity and i would stan her so much

Its awful. This mother is pure toxic. What I hate most is that her mother, or someone of her family, doesn't hear when she says something. She is always right and still. No one cares. Probably that's why she needs to be Lady Whistledown, because finally people care.

It’s true Portia isn’t the most affectionate mother but she does love her daughters dearly, including Penelope since she did defend them against cousin Jack.

Jesus...I felt that in my soul. My Grandmother and aunt are JUST like that with my mum and me. We can do NOTHING right xD

There's something in her story that stirs memory of many in one way or another. I think in the show Penelope's character will be a very interesting growth to portray by Nicola. I'm really obsessed with Bridgerton so I'm looking forward how they will take books story and mix it with show scenario. I really need Penelope to stand for herself, even if it's more shy or introverted but still valid and strong.

Polly Walker is a master craftsman when it comes to playing the overbearing pretentious (s)mother.

I suppose Penelope should be happy it's just verbal attacks and neglect, and they are immediately related. Otherwise her mother's comments probably would have been accompanied or replaced with a slap, like it was for Marina.

Despite the knowing what happens in the book I wonder how Lady Feathering ton will react Pen being Lady Whistledown. She either will be proud that her daughter is a bigger schemer than her or she want to take all of Pen's money to save the family. It would be a nice character development if Pen will save her family anonymously and in the end Lady F. would find out and would be really grateful for her....By the way great casting from all of the Featherington's girls she looks the most of like her mother 😹

I really hope Penelope starts to fight and pushback against her mother and sisters in season 3. I really want Penelope to rip her mother a new one.

I'm hoping for S3 that it's #polin and that Penelope is finally courted by a thoroughly nice high noble for Portia to push her towards marrying, rather than a mere Mister, even if he is a Bridgerton. The rivalry could be the spark ✨️ Colin needs because E8 stuffed up who found out about Penelope 🤦‍♀️

Penelope I was bullied by my mom to same thing what do at parties or theme parks or at movie theathers. And what to wear all the time. I am like you all the time. I like yellow dresses I have 7 of them and they goof on me the yellow dresses look good on you Penelope

I do have dresses that make me happy it just I am shopping person and a clothes horse because when I was growing up and right I was poor. I wear dresses with leggings jeggings and jeans so I do have have dresses that make me happy and pretty. Penelope I will be your friend just like Eloise

For a mother of her time, Lady Featherington was kind of a good one. She cared for her daughters and allowed them some kind of freedom, Penelope was able to pass her time reading and hanging out with Eloise despite being out in society. More parents would just force marriage on their children

Lady Featherington may love all 3 of her daughters but she still treats Penelope like trash. She thinks so little of her and automatically assumed she would be a spinster even though she did nothing to help her find a match. And the only time she paid attention to her was when she snagged a rich suitor, something that would give her more power and influence in society. Portia definitely wants her girls to be secured but she can sometimes be extremely emotionally abusive, especially to Penelope.

I wonder how Portia will treat Penelope in season 3. If she becomes the next Diamond, I think her mother will scheme to marry her to either Colin or the handsome Lord Delbing.
