Pen tells Marina for example that she's known Colin forever, but it isn't until this year (her first season out in society) that she actually meets Colin in the books (or was this the year before or after? lol), and even after that he never really got to know her or grow close with her until it was their time to get together. Yes, she was in love with him since she first set eyes on him but he didn't fall for her until much later years down the road once he started to get to see the true her he was blinded to all those years and as her own person beyond just being Eloise's bff. He doesn't know why it took him so long to realize just how special she was you'll see him contemplate over in the books, and he gets so mad with himself at the thought that he could've lost her to some other suitor long ago because of his stupidity. And what's nice about this connection is that she doesn't have to undergo some major physical transformation AKA "glow-up" in order for him to see just how amazing and beautiful a person Pen is inside and out. Colin believes it took him so long because he must've had some growing to do. To put it simply: it just wasn't their time. In fact Pen suggests maybe it was the both of them who needed to do some growing because that's what you call a healthy loving supportive relationship of true love. 😌💜

I do have to say, despite being totally oblivious to her feelings for him, he is such a gentleman; he dances with her on occasion, and treats her with respect, seeing her like a sister (although the viewer wishes it not so) and treating her as such, which is with respect.

Not that I do not understand given her circumstances but regardless of whether or not Pen is in love with Colin, they're friends and Eloise is Penelope's best friend. She wasn't going to let Marina take advantage of the whole family like that. The woman was straight up going to seduce him, and make him believe the kid is his in order to force him to marry her. That is so messed up especially considering Colin would've married her anyway if she'd been honest . I understand Penelope. Imagine having to lie to your bestest most dearest friends (one of whom is the love of your life) years on end that the child is their son or neice/nephew in Eloise's case. The Bridgerton's are her second family. It becomes even more apparent if you read the books that she sort of looks at Violet as a mother figure. Penelope tried to warn Marina, she didn't listen.

Marina felt forced to do all those things because penelopes mother made her believe that no one would love her for being pregnant, and there was no other way to secure her future. If Marina did not go with Colin she would be forced to marry a man that would treat her like nothing and a creepy and gross one too. And its not just that situation, the situation with Eloise in the second season, and the fact that her lady Whistledown paper was saying a whole lot of smack about Simon and Daphne when she barely knew those people. She is the most unloveable and shallow character I've seen in a show smh

All the more reason when they finally get together he feels so stupid for not noticing her. It’s ok he had to grow up a bit and deserve her. And she had to realize her own worth too

Penelope is one of the first people I've seen to completely rock the colour yellow. Can be unflattering on lighter skin, but her hair just makes her look like the sun, what a stunner.

Colin, in this stage is a total buffoon but he respects her and cares for her. It’s just that he doesn’t see her as a woman because his mind is stuck on that other woman. And he never disrespects her… that last scene, I believe he said that because he looks at Pen as a sister cause she’s best friends with Eloise.

Rewatched Polin scenes from season 1 and 2 just now and it's just then I realized that Pen went through so much because of him. He needs to suffer so much before he gets her. Hahahaha!

Colin is like all guys blinded by pretty little faces till those faces bored him then only then will he actually see the beauty that has always been there. Plus she was still “young” and not grownups.

It makes what Colin said in books 3/4 that much more painful (the scene with Anthony and Benedict). I wonder if they’ll include that in season 2 or if they’ll save it for 3.

I know they probably end up together. But the amount of times she points herself out or tries to get Collins attention it becomes sad. Like I hope they don’t end up together because pen deserves so much better. Every time I see them together I’m just like he doesn’t like you.

Oh Poor Pen :( :( :( The yellow actually looks fine on her. Sometimes the yellow can get too bright clashing with her red hair, but otherwise, the more subdued color of yellow would've looked lovely. I think her character is lovely and I'm glad that they're going to season 3 with her unchanged in term of weight. She is lovely as is and she deserves the best.

SPOILERS Penelope held the most power in the entire show but was smart enough not to use it for selfish purposes (mostly) in order to keep her secret. She knew the Queen was trying to unmask her identity through Eloise but only revealed so as Whistledown after Eloise warned her off. For Colin, was the only reason she slipped. Giving a clue for a reader to try find her (how did she find out about the pregnancy) and almost lead her own family to ruin.

It seems to be a debate whether he is the "slowest" Bridgerton. Pen's pain/heartbreak is real. Ms Thompson even spells out to Colin in season 2 that Penelope was there all along and he didn't see. But to his defense, as others have said, it's not always the first plan to see your younger sister's bff from across the street in a romantic light.

She's great but I'll still never forgive her for airing out her cousins business like that.

A lot of people think Colin only sees Penelope as a friend but there have been some moments where he showed signs of loving her back, especially in season 2. He just dismisses it because he sees it as crazy to fall in love with the very person who is your little sister’s best friend. He just feels like he should only see Penelope as a family-friend than a love interest.

Plus he helped Daphne by taking her to the duel which lead to her marriage. Kate/Anothny he met Kate first and was like I need you to meet my brother Benedict/Sophie marry her who cares what the ton says Eloise/Sir Phillip the only brother who doesn't attack him Francesca/Michael why don't you just marry my sister Hyacinth/Gareth Ill be back on that one l forgot Gregory/Lucy well he was part of the epic church throw down.

The way the actor playing Colin is playing it his words may be friend zoning her but his eyes are certainly not. he gives her some of the most intensely not friendly looks I have seen between friends. lol. It’s almost as if the character makes a point of telling Penelope that she is in the friend zone to make sure his heart puts the invisible barrier there, because when Penelope shows him glimpse of who she really is thru her witty remarks the character of Colin is trying to make sure he doesn’t accidentally end up flirting with her. he very purposely sets up boundaries with his words less his actions contradict him. Him telling her she’s very important to him and that he will always protect her and then interjecting that she’s his friend is because the prior statement is very heavily skewed into not the friend zone type of feeling. She is his sister’s BFF but most brothers will not act this way to their sister’s BFF. Penelope is much more than Eloise BFF in Colin’s heart he just can’t stand back and actually see that what he says and how he acts does not match up. He needs something to snap him out of his comfort zone. Her telling him off for humiliating her in front of his friends and cutting him off from her good graces will be that call to action moment for him. He will realize that he misses her and wants her around him and once he starts helping her to find a husband he will realize that he doesn’t particularly like that idea that he will hate Penelope showering anyone else with her attention. He will realize that he likes to have Penelope’s undivided attention. He has had her attention all this time and the moment she starts giving that to someone else he will realize he doesn’t not fancy that idea. In the book he thinks about the fact that he could have possibly lost Penelope because he took so long in noticing her and that ideas scares him to his core. I can’t wait to visually see this play out. It’s time for the shoe to be on the other foot.

They need need need to adapt at least until book 6...

I do like them together, though I think Nicola could have chemistry with anyone. I do wish she hadn't done what she did to Marina, the same thing could have been completed if she just told Anthony or Violet the truth. They would have kept Colin and Marina apart and made sure Colin stayed single. I hope the show tackles that before their season. I think it would just add a lot of drama that will just weigh their season down when it already has enough going on there.

I believe by season 2 he already loves her too but is in denial and maybe ashamed?

Ughhhh I want so much better for Penelope but I know they end up together🙄

I am very glad they do. I believe she was in love with him for a long time before he finally saw the wonderful person she is.

Yes. This makes me beyond happy.

This is a bit random, but I'm hating the fact that it's being noted about a possible recasting due to her having lost weight in the book and THAT'S why Colin falls in love with her. Um, no. Yes, she loses weight, and basically had a 360 in the makeover department from hair to makeup and dress(duh, hehe), nevertheless, he does not automatically fall in love with her solely because of the weight loss. Also, from my recollection, not once does he mention her weight and that being a factor. If he does then, feel free to correct me, please. But as a fan of their book, I find it misleading. After all, despite her physical change, she's still considered a wallflower, plain and RELATIVELY PLUMP. He falls in love with her because he's finally seen her for the awesome person that she is and realizes what an ass he along with many others have been for not SEEING Penelope as a human being.
