Pelion has more than 70 villages that are also tourist destinations even though they are located on top of the mountains and not on the sea. Each of these villages has its own unique character, tradition and charm. The most famous and most visited villages are: Makrinitsu, Portariu, Tsagaradu, Zagora, Milies, Vizitsa, and others. Each village exudes an authentic Greek spirit, with traditional stone houses, narrow streets, churches and squares. As a rule, in every village there is a big plane tree in the center.The eastern coast of the peninsula is usually better known and more popular among visitors. It offers a diverse selection of beaches, from those with fine sand to those with pebbles and they are landscaped. They are characterized by their turquoise blue color and the presence of large waves. The most famous resort on the east coast is Agios Ioannis, while the famous beaches are Mjlopotamos, Plaka, Fakistra, Horefto, Damoučari and others.The west coast of the peninsula usually has a calmer atmosphere.
