Pekingese Behavior Issues - 5 Tips For Taming Aggression In Pekingese Dogs
It is not a necessity to first understand pack mentally or become a dog whisperer if you want to make out what message your dog's aggression endeavors to pass across. Aggressive behavior among animals can be utterly dangerous. Worst of all, even the smallest dog can cause serious injury, most probably to children.
What Causes Dogs' Hostility?
Just like other dogs, Pekingese are essentially instinctual creatures, which most times are controlled by environmental conditions and not the dog's master. Changes in environmental conditions can result in various sorts of aggression behaviors among the Pekingese breed, for instance, predatorial, fear, dominance, territorial and many others. It is important to note that such behaviors can also develop as a result of many other issues including excessive punishment, lack of socialization, an overly aggressive owner, and health issues.
Why Should You Discourage Dog Aggression at Early Age?
Pekingese dogs are just like kids who often believe that parents owe them, so they have ways through which they can force their masters into attending to their desires. When they are supplied with what they were yearning for, they often expect more. But when their commands are not adhered to, aggression and violent tendencies may surface. Mostly, aggression among dogs is noticed at an early age.
It is advisable to seek help from a professional dog trainer as soon as you notice weird behaviors. Aggression in much older Pekingese dogs is somewhat uncontrollable, but you can do something to mitigate the effect.
How Do I Deal With Dog Aggression?
Socialization - Dogs that are not social enough usually execute the attitude of "solid offense is the best defense." The incapability to know how to deal with humans and other animals can result in them taking aggressive and defensive stances. It is thus, the duty of the master to train the dog by taking them to social scenes.
Positive Reinforcement - Do not rebuke your Peke for his violent behaviors, since this can persuade them into being more aggressive. Avoid harsh and chaining corrections. Just focus on praising your dog always and learn how to stop them from being aggressive politely.
Dog Aggression Training Programs - Probably there is some dog aggression training programs within your locality. Why don't you consider joining one? These programs are helpful for both old age dogs and puppies. They help them learn new tricks that can help control their aggression behavior.
Be Polite - How do you expect your dog to well-mannered when you are aggressive? Help your dog learn how to control aggression by being polite to whoever you meet.
Gratify Your Dog - Always praise your dog whenever they act polite to friends. This way your Pekingese dog will want to behave in a similar way next time. Wondering how to praise him?

Think one of the main causes of aggression in Pekingese is rough handling. Because they are like little fluffy teddy bears does not mean they want random people picking them up or touching them it’s very upsetting and scary for them. Nobody would try to pick up an German shepherd or Doberman. If your Pekingese is aggressive he or she has not been socialised properly and may have suffered some trauma where people have been cruel. I’ve even seen some videos on KZread where people are teasing their poor little Pekingese and it’s growling and obviously very upset and scared and they are laughing! Can’t understand why anyone would find this amusing would they like it? Love your beautiful little Pekingese boy or girl they are the most wonderful dogs💕❤️🌹🌺💐 Ps……..all dogs are 🙂 x x

Mine was never aggressive except when food was involved, or a larger dog wanted her to play. My neighbor had a boxer and a bulldog, but one day she gave out some dog snacks. She put her two in one room and my peke in another. Next thing anyone saw was the bulldog trying to take a snack from my peke- but he was just trying to take back what my peke had stolen from him.

I had a black peke, she looks like gizmo , from the movie Gremlins. She was so cute and not aggressive. Although she is gone for more than twenty years now, I still miss her.

I just do not understand people say that pekingese are agressive. In my own opinion and my experience with dogs since my childwood, what I came to a conclusion, dogs are what owners teaches them, they behaviour or agression has everything to do with owners incapacity to educate a dog. So what you teach them, they give back, they are the mirror of their owners. So dogs get aggressive due to owners lack of tactics. I saw owners teasing their dogs to be agressive, so then do not complain, it is their own fault. So pekingese dogs, are mean and aggressive? No and no. I have two most beautiful pekingese, and both are the most kind, lovable dogs that you can see. And why? Since I got them, we treated them with lots of love, never screamed at them, never scolded them, never teased them to be aggressive, a behaviour that a lot of people find it funny, but do not weight the consequences when they dogs reaches adulthood. In my case I teached them to be kind, lovable. And the way to reach it is to respect them as you want to be respected too. Be aware of their personality, everyone of them is different, and remember, people like it or not, they are very intelligent, they think like we do, they have their rules, they have strategies, they plan, etc, etc. Only we humans do not like to acknowledge it. So I treat my dogs humanely, and what I have in return, love, company and respect, they just love people, but for some reason, there are people that they do not even pay attention to them, and for those I know, I must not have nothing with them, because if my lovable dogs loves everyone and reject some people, it is because they sence that there is something wrong. It happened to me about 5 times. In those occasions, I myself, ask the persons to not touch my dogs, and I give some excuse to it. So pekingese or whatever dog there is, are aggressive because they are teached to do it. The blame has to go to then owners, because people must remember that they pick everything up from their owners like children do.

My peke is loyal. She's friendly to all creatures whom show respect. Honestly my ms. Kitty (her name) is a terrific watch dog. She can read a room or the whole park. If I'm calm, she's chill & wants to play. If I'm sad, she will vibe me attention. If I celebrate, she is by my side to give out a few awooos. However if I'm stressed, she becomes shifty & will start handing out side eyes. If you shade her, she'll end you shit. She's downed mice, rats, birds, rabbits & raccoons. There's nothing more you can ask from your dog, especially seeing as she's mostly a companion dog. I haven't ever met such a receptive peke.

My Peke is a year old. He needs a lot of training for aggression. I need help with him! I have just reached out to a trainer before I found this video. I feel there needs to be demonstrations on how to correct this behavior not just verbal instructions on how to get this corrected. Thank you!

Mine is a rescue peek. He loves ppl. He is great w autistic ppl and seniors. But he don't care for other dogs. I've been practicing positive trainining w food. He has good days and bad social days. If a large dog engages in a bark fest w him, he would go on to attack mode. Otherwise, if they are calm and sniff and respect his space, he will do well and I reward him for that. It's work. As far as humans, Not a problem. He comforts them

ugh my pekingese mix came to me at 1.5 years old, after living on the street and being severely abused by humans. Can't figure out a way to get her to stop barking, I've tried ignoring and putting her in another room but she just stays in fight mode. I fear she'll just be this way until shes too old and crotchety to care.

i feel ur pain i got mine from a breeder as a new born. By week two I could see she was full of home sickness issues. She screams in the middle of the night, she never sleeps, she is not happy unless she is being brushed and sitting on top of me. I've had a lot of dogs.. Too Many. I prepared for this dog, for two years. They are sad little dogs, they can only breathe through one nostril so they need lots of air conditioning, low humidity, and a clean floor. She is only happy when the house is in complete peace and perfectness, if one thing is out of place... she will cry about it for three hours.

If a person has little kids the pekingese will become aggressive because little kids can be to aggressive with the puppy when handling the dog. Most Pekingese do not like little kids because they're too aggressive when they try to play with the dog. Ive had 6 pekingese in my life. Rt now i have 2, male & female. I dont let any kids around my dogs because my dogs did not like being around little kids. Little kids do not understand that Pekingese dogs do not like to be manhandled.

Like ALL dogs ..... if you have a nasty owner the dog has to Try to defend itself . Just look at many of those "cute" youtube videos of people teasing their dogs to get a funny result!!!! Then they wonder why the dog gets aggressive. Sure genetics and spoiling can do it but the number one cause is the behaviour of the Original Owner.... for these are the dogs that end up in the pound.

@SH4Y who told you that you get to tell anyone what to do? See? Full circle, back to the point. The class is dripping off, but I'm not the one to speak to like that, rest assured. You don't worry me at all. You can't get by on entitlement and thinking you can boss and play everyone, because real bosses ain't playing. I won't play intimidstion, being told what to do, attacked because my opinions are different, not this day or any other. Diversity is all about people being different, isn't it? So, who are you to force your will on anyone? Some of us will let you try that bs, and just when that pride goeth before a fall, remind bullies that they aren't running anything but their mouths, and never were. And there are more of us than you can imagine, too. Let people be who the hell they are and move on. Just remember to never miss a good opportunity to stfu.

I was taking a walk on my street one day when a dog came up from behind with zero warning and gave me a deep bite on my leg, then continued to try to attack me. I had to go to the emergency room and got a nasty scar. The owner had said her dog got off the leash when she came running after her dog. She was begging me not to report it, since it had already bit her neighbor across the street and she was fearful for her dog. This dog was a Pekingese.
