I know people saying Babs looks fragile but a) she was acting and b) what a credit to her to be working when she was ill. This should be celebrated rather than a thing of sorrow.

She was in the early stages of dementia which is why her husband asked the show to kill Peggy off. Such a shame but I guess it’s something that getting older does

Hearing about her death today I came here to watch her final scenes

This is extra sad to know this was the start of the actress getting ill.

Killing off Pat was the biggest mistake this show ever made this was easily the saddest episode for me

KingFanDisney well the actress who plays Peggy in real life was suffering the early stages of dementia, so it was probably a good idea they cancelled her part. She’s quite sever now.

The biggest mistakes this show ever made were killing off Cindy, Tiffany and Angie. Pat had a good run but those other characters did not last as long as they should have.

I don’t think she’s hallucinating. Something beautiful about this. I’m not saying it’s a ghost - just, it honours some mysteries. Who knows? Anyway, it’s lovely.

Yes, it was so overwhelming to see Pat back, even if it was for this just episode which was so heartbreaking

Saw my grandmother and her mother go through the same thing - absolutely heartbreaking.

Pat with the pink frosted lips, the smokes, and bleached hair.

And for Steve, Ross, Pam and anyone else who knew about her condition. The whole of Peggy's final storyline - with Phil taking her on a boat along the Thames, etc - wasn't just a tribute to Peggy; it was their fond, loving goodbye to Barbara, too. It must have been very emotional for them all.

pat will always be remembered

Reminiscent of Vera Duckworth’s return in Corrie, but this was a brilliant end for Peggy. And an acknowledgement perhaps that they shouldn’t have killed off Pat. Why do EE bosses so willingly (and mistakenly) kill off their best characters?

She said she wanted to kill off peggy here so she wasnt drawn back again. She had said she eas starting to struggle with lines etc etc and had just ber diagnosed. Poor Babs. Her husband did wonderfully and its sad she has had to go into Care now. Bless her xxx

Dillon Ryan it was her choice, she wanted to leave because of the changes happening in Enders. She was a great character and was in the show for a very long time. I loved her x

Kerry Elizabeth Myers You are wrong my Freind. She did not want to leave and Barbara Windsor admitted this to Phillip Schofield on this morning. Pat was a Matriarch if Eastenders and they killed her off to pull in ratings on a declining show. Eastenders is now the 3rd watched show which they have never been, always first or second.

@@rockie0708 I believe she wanted a break, after 25 years non-stop and to have the door left open, but they decided to kill her off instead. Pretty harsh if you ask me for such a long-standing character.

It must be wonderful to be from a place where you know everyone and they know you and have your back. Does anyone actually live somewhere like this?

The reason they cut her out the show was because she has dementia and her dementia was getting worse so they wanted to respect her and her character and give her a proper farewell/EastEnders ending, she will always be an iconic EastEnders character ❤️

Her part wasn’t cancelled. Barbara Windsor asked for Peggy to be written out and killed off. There were high level talks with producers and writers, after Babs and her husband spoke to Lorraine Newman and Dominic Treadwell Collins.

Were Pat and Peggy always friends, because I remember in the early years, there was a bit of animosity between them
