See the U.S.S. Arizona 75 years later. In 1941, the battleship was destroyed when Japanese planes mounted a surprise attack on the American naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The ship's remains have become a memorial, holding artifacts of everyday life such as shoes, soda bottles, and cooking pots belonging to the servicemen aboard on that fateful day. It is now the responsibility of the National Park Service's Submerged Resource Center, a team of archaeologists and photographers, to survey and document the remnants of the Arizona to preserve the memory of those who made the ultimate sacrifice in World War II. In this video, the center's deputy chief, Brett Seymour, describes the scene while diving and photographing the ship's wreckage, which still holds the remains of nearly a thousand victims who went down with the ship.

    IDK how divers can go to places like that--in abandoned wreaks where people died. It's just too eerie.

    i wouldn't want to go inside the wreckage. for 1 i do not know how sturdy the walls and ceilings are inside it because i don't want to accidentally bump up against something and have it collapse on me. 2 it's a war grave. no there isn't any human remains still inside the ship because it's a safe bet that the explosion from the bomb and powder magazine pretty much obliterated their bodies.

    @@derekwall200 alot of people got trapped still alive inside after it sank. Considering there are skeletal remains in japanese ships in deeper waters I bet there's at least a few bones scattered around

    Creepychewy12345 No, I meant that a Japanese submarine was sunk at Pearl Harbor on the day of the attack. And im pretty sure the Japanese caught them off guard so they didn't fire at them until after the first bombs hit.

  • @derekwall200

    @derekwall200

    4 жыл бұрын

    nope, i think most of the bodies of the crew that were onboard during the explosion were blown apart. when the powder magazine exploded most of the 1177 sailors were killed instantly while the rest were trapped. but after 70+ years in seawater their bodies have since all decayed away or have been consumed by other organisms that feed on dead things.

    Part of why the USS Utah doesn't get as much coverage, is because Pearl Harbor is still an active military base, and it rests within that part. In order to visit the ship you have to get special permission.
