Pediatric doctors and nurses are something else. When my son needed surgery they let him hold on to his stuffed animal in the OR. When he was done, they had given the animal an IV and dressed his arm just like my son, and the doctor even repaired a small tear in a seam with some stitches.

When I was little I had a lot of bladder issues and when I was 7 I had to have surgery. The doctor let me take my stuffed Minnie Mouse into to OR with me and when I came out they let me help put in a little IV for her. It made me less scared and I knew I wasn’t alone on my journey. Fast forward 7 more years, I had to have the same surgery again a couple of months ago, and they did the same thing with one of my squishmallows. It made my day, even at 14 years old!

My child had 16 back procedures. I was there for all of them. I walked back to the OR with her time and again. It was fascinating, and heart wrenching. She had a loose tooth one time, which we told them, routine, and when they brought her back from recovery, they had a plastic bag with the tooth, a sticker, and 3 dollars. I was staying with her overnight and brought in the tooth fairy pillow. She was given an additional $25. (My dad loved to "pamper" (spoil) her.)

I think it’s more a case that he is still a child at heart … or he remembers what it feels like to have had a doctor who helped him feel better when this doctor was a child himself. I suspect that he was a “sick” child when he was small child himself & he had a doctor who treated him the same way that he had had who acted in the same way so he took care of him the same way that he now treats the young That he now treats his young patients he now treats his own patients.

@@ste8462 ok… why do people look to find the most negative things about postings or comment and reply to them?? It’s so much easier to just be kind… That dr didn’t have any other thoughts in his mind other than making those kids comfortable before surgery… as a parent myself it’s not disgusting but what is is people looking for the negative about everything… and your the one who thought about that so maybe you need to look at how you think about children yourself…

normally the childs parent (mum or dad) comes into the theatre with them and stays till the said child is put on sedation which is much more comforting for the child then having a random doctor hold them when they're already really scared.

bro, you will never understand the literal HELL we go through to be able to treat you! It's not like we make that much money anyways., especially if we take the efforts and the medical school loans into consideration. Trust me, through my medical career, nearly everyone is there because they WANT to make people happy. Also, having expensive medical treatment is about the company, it has absolutely nothing to do with the doctors.

I mean yes I agree it isn't easy, if you as a medical professional are in a mental state where you are taking the stress out on your patients then you need to take a step back and reevaluate why you did that and what you can do to help your mental health and help you treat your patients more kindly. My friend just had a baby and while some of the staff were amazing there were a few who were absolutely horrendous. My friend was high risk and she never dilated past 7cm and so she may have needed a c-section. A nurse gave her food (which she was only supposed to be on a liquid based diet) which was dangerous as it could have caused asphyxiation during the c-section, luckily she didn't need the c-section but she was in rough shape after and it was almost a c-section.

He actually self admitted it when I came out and asked him directly, you're a narcissist aren't you? He answered back, PROUDLY yes, yes I am!!! I was floored by his admittance. It just is the wrong profession for a narc to thrive in! Grandiose in that moment, imo, but I don't know this Dx he had, far cry from a covert narc I've enmeshed myself with.
