Peckforton Light Railway / Deben Valley Light Railway - Morgan Garratt loco "River Ore" visitation
Ғылым және технология
On September day with heavy rain showers, Zach Bond paid a visit to the PLR to give his new loco - A Morgan Garratt, "River Ore" its first proper run. The loco made four trips down and up the line - as you can see. For more information see riksrailway.blogspot.com - Music "Industrious Ferret" by Kevin McLeod (incompetech.com ). Hi everyone. A lovely bit of filming there. I am the builder of the 'baby' Garratts as well as lots of other locomotives. I thought I'd better set the record straight regarding me giving up. Yes, I did inform Zach and several others of my intention to 'retire' from building models. This was due mainly to my eyesight and several other personal reasons. I officially retired 2 years ago from my full time job in aerospace and in the first year I made about 1 a month. I realised that this was unsustainable long term and so I cut back. I'm currently at the stage that I've used up all of my laser cut parts, boilers, wheels etc so I need to restock. I'm currently redesigning the boilers to standardise and make them simpler to build. Since passing the model to Zach I have had laser eye surgery which should improve my sight (so I've been told) I will be building a few more at some stage but I am currently building a couple of models for myself. Thank you for your interest. I will post a 'you tube' link to some of the other models I have made and our railway.

Charming, well behaved engine. We've several Garretts on the H&BLR, one live steam, soon to be sold, three others are battery powered and built from card.
A wonderland of imagination brought to life by the engines.
Nice video, what a lovely Garrett 😊
Those Morgan Garratts are wonderful things. I think you need a Garratt Rik 😉
Thanks Rik for a great day. You've made the test runs look quite uneventful! We got a measure of it by the second run though. Can't get over how at home she looked on the sand train. I hadn't clocked that we took sand to the quarry and empties back!

Always a pleasure to host your visitations, Zach. Your enthusiasm for and knowledge of live steam is a joy to behold.
Hi, Fantastic layout, nice locomotive and trains, great movie! Cheers Fabrizio -like 4
Superb running. The Morgan Garratt sounds lovely, a pleasing rattling as it trundles along the way. I guess it goes through a fair bit of water (and coal, ahem) for those four cylinders. Obviously manual running, but can it be RC? A little bird told me the client had ordered too much sand, so it was surplus to requirements! Hence why it was returned to the quarry.

It has an Osmotor - two oscillating cylinders linked to the bogies with carden shafts. You'll notice that Zach had his water bottle to hand and topped up at regular intervals. Probably as much to do it being a new loco than its thirst. Each run was on a single gas fill, so a fair run time especially as the loco is new and hence still a bit stiff.
Wunderfull loco. Are there blue prints for this model availeble?

It's sold commercially so you'd have to pay to get one, sorry.

Unfortunately, I think he is retiring so this might be one of the last models he produces. Contact @DebenValleyLightRail who commissioned this loco to find out whether Morgan Locomotive Works is still in production
