Peavey IPR 1600 Repair Guide - IRS2092SBPF & IRFS4227PbF

Peavey IPR 1600 Repair
The IRS2092SPBF chip also causes a DDT fault too.
Output FETs, I used IRFS4227PbF and they seem to work 100%.

Hi, just wanted to add my thanks for this post. My IPR1600 had channel A die on me a few months back just as I was setting up for a gig. Thankfully only one channel died and I was able to use ChB to drive monitors (only one monitor mix, but better than none! Just got around to plucking up courage to desolder the suspect IRS2092 chip and replace with one that I had to order from China via AliExpress. Not my favoured source but unable to get them from anywhere in UK or EU. Based upon your info I took a gamble and ordered a pair of them for abour a tenner delivered. There seem to be lots of high power class D amp modules for sale from AliExpress all based upon this chip so I figured there was a reasonable chance they would be OK and anyway without it half the amp was dead anyway! Success! seems to work fine - just need to soak test it for a while now, to build up confidence in it. For what it's worth to desolder it I started by dumping a line of leaded solder and plenty of flux on all the pins with a soldering iron, then I used some tin foil from an old pie dish to fashion a mask to protect the surrounding components and used hot air to bring the chip up to temperature to melt the solder and lift it off the board. Clean up with more flux and desolder braid, then pop the new one back on with the soldering iron.

In general, If the lamps blink it's a problem with the Amp section ( the driver IC is doing that to protect itself and it is not usually the problem). Any steady active lamp with no input usually suggests a power supply problem going to the amp section but the PS is working.

Hi John. Thank you very much for your contribution. I'm from Brasil, and I have a IPR 3000. With your video, now, I have a direction. I see the hot Mosfets and change two. Very hard with the board heat dissipation. It was cutting the sound for temperature. Now, It is sounding the repeating clip sound. I think is the IRS too, but is not clear for me... Sorry my english... Did you changed the OPA and temperature sensor?

john, thanks so much for this video, i have had an ipr1600 sat on the shelf given to me with this problem... though someone thought it was the smps psu film capacitors and removed them.. it was given to me without them! I have no idea what values they should be - i doubt you still have the amp now but do you have info on them? circuit diagram etc? It would be most handy! It does sound like the previous owner had shorted one of the output terminals and then it just did this after so - maybe a warning to people, dont short your output connections!

There are four - two per channel. Located behind the big capacitors (on the other side from the Audio output FETs). You should measure a diode drop across each. Other than one of the blue LEDs opening up and killing the whole unit, this is the most common fault.
