Peavey Blazer Mod 1: Reverb Upgrade

I got a Peavey Blazer practice amp for my living room and I really like it, but we can make it better! Join me in a series of videos as I mod this great little amp into something even better.

    Thanks for this instruction. I replaced the peavey speaker with a Warehouse 10” Veteran and the Reverb with a MOD tank. Great upgrade to a 90s practice amp. Strat loves it. Keep Rockin’

    Thanks for making this video. I picked up the Red Stripe version of this amp in hopes that its reverb was true spring like Your’s . It was ! I did the mod and used an accutronics 8eb2c1b I had lying around. The reverb on this amp beautiful sounding now . The best part is it looks it came that way from the factory . The amp surprisingly sound excellent for what it is:) I never would have taken the chance on this amp had it not been for your video on the mod. Thanks , Tim

    Thanks for the video. I bought a used one with a dead "tank". I upgrade for a regular short reverb tank and managed to install it inside the amp housing. It fitted perfectly with a small notch on the base. I drilled and tapped for M5 holes and mounted it with no hum sound issues whatsoever.

    Same problem with mine, but i have the previous version (red stripe). I would like to change the reverb tank but i didn't find any shop sell it in my country. Try to buy it at ebay but i don't have any CC, LOL. BTW, thanks for the video

    I live next to Corona, so all I find are Fender amps. Unfortunately all the good amps are never cheap, everyone wants retail and reverb prices for the vintage stuff 😂

    Nice mod. I want to upgrade the tank and add a speaker ext. to my Envoy. I have the late model Rage and added the speaker out early on with it. A bigger speaker makes a nice difference. Thanks for the video.

    Hey Fred I just did a video where I took this blazer and made a wedge combo that pairs it with a 12" Celestion v30. It sounds fantastic. You are correct, a bigger speaker makes a heck of a difference! Thank you for watching sir.

    How do you know the send versus return connections, nothing indicates this on the PC board and the hot versus ground wires? I need to do this same thing on my Hughes and Kettner amp. Same issue, small tiny spring reverb inside the amp chasis. I looked at the Mod tanks and there various versions, how do you know which version to buy? Trial and error? Thanks

    Very cool and informative I have a question do you remember if your peavey amp had a two prong wall plug or three? Mine has two with no ground seems unsafe would like to change to three prong from what I can see in your video yours has a black and white power cable with no ground am I correct and did you ground yours?

  • @ForsytheVideo

    How did you determine the the 8db 3 c1b was the proper tank for this circuit. I m curious because I’ve been looking for a blazer to do this to myself. Every Peavey amp in this series I’ve owned used a 4 or 8eb instead of dB . I have several 4 or 8eb tanks already .I think they’d work. What do you think?

  • @ForsytheVideo

    @ForsytheVideo

    Great question, and honestly I just picked one that would fit in the amp. We're not talking major voltages running through so really as long as you don't cross your send/return leads just about any tank will work. Just experiment, if you're working on an old Peavey it can take it, these amps last forever. Thanks for watching!

    ForsytheVideo cool . Have you thought about trying to turn the MP3 player insert into an fx loop? That would be cool too. I figured out how to put an fx loop in my Red Stripe Envoy. I think this amp would be trickier to do that with . I’m looking at a red stripe blazer now.

    Excellent video, exactly what I've been searching for, thanks for posting it. What is the model number of the MOD reverb tank? If you no longer know the number, I'm mostly interested in the input/output impedance of the tank.
