Ten is a masterpiece. Black is one of the most beautiful songs from that era.

Ten is seen as one of the greatest rock albums ever made. Every song is great. Although seen as a grunge album there are classic rock roots in Pearl Jams music. Vs is also another great album.

Makes sense. The bands of the "grunge" scene grew up listening to all those classic rock bands.

Brilliant album. I was fortunate to see them live twice. Once after they hit it big but the first time was in a basketball gymnasium prior to fame. Amazing live. Blood on Vs. has one of the greatest screams in rock. Vitology and Vs are great albums too.

A lot of people are going to say shitty things about this. But at the time this along with Sound Garden and Alice In Chains and Janes Addiction etc seemed to have a different spin on classic rock sounds. I understood the excitement.

Cool. You are reacting to another one of my favorite artists of all time. Ten is a masterpiece as others have said. It is also Pearl Jam's most mainstream album. Overall Pearl don't have many bad songs. Their late career albums have a few more average songs on them, but that should be expected of any artist that has been around a while. It is always hard to capture the energy of youth. That said their new album is pretty good.

This is part 2 of the Mammason trilogy. Part 1 is Alive where the protagonist is abused sexually by his mother. In Part 2, this song, he is now grown up and has become a serial killer. Part 3 is Footsteps, the b side to the Jeremy single. In that song the protagonist is now on death row. He was waiting in his cell for the guards to get him and put him to death.

This was the music of my generation. I grew up listening to classic rock and prog rock and loving it all. I was in my 20s in the 1990s and I absolutely loved the rock music scene then. I loved Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots and my favorite of all, Alice In Chains. I owned all these cds back then. Actually haven't heard this in years. Nice to see you react to this. You may have heard "Alive" as it was a big hit for them.

Call me odd, but Ten feels like home to me. I can relate to the feelings (if not directly to the life experiences behind the songs). I think Once is my favourite track off of the album although it isn’t comfortable to listen to. Ten is a phenomenal record by any standard and deserves analysis track by track.

Vedder's deep, uncontrolled vibrato brought something new and compelling at the time. Wished I could do that, but I fear my neck would explode.

Another good collaborative project to check out is Temple of the Dog; Eddie Vedder and Chris Cornell (RIP). Their most well-known hit from that being "Hunger Strike".

Someone lent me this as a CD (about 20 years ago) and I was eager to listen to it because of all the hype I'd heard and read about it back when it was released (I missed it firsthand, being under 10 at the time) (although the age thing didn't stop me listening to my brother's 70s prog rock albums and falling for all of that from a very young age so... whatever). Anyway, I listened to it all straight through and wasn't too impressed and have never returned to it in all these years. Today, after hearing this track, I feel that my original opinion will most likely remain unchanged. (I did find that I clicked with Nirvana, however.)

I was gonna say 'meh', but jtenaz beat me to it. They weren't terrible, but I never really understood how they got as big as they did. Didn't seem to bring much new to the party. Riding the grunge/alt rock wave, perhaps... And I even picked up a few of their discs (on a whim), but don't think I played either more than once, ironically. Just didn't grab me.
