My grandfather passed away 3 years ago. He was 94 and a veteran of WW2. He served in the Italian theater. He would never speak of he war. RIP, Harry Hanson - Billings, MT.

I went on a honor flight last summer with my grandpa and when you get to Baltimore it’s truly surprising how many people would stand and applaud and thank all the veterans for their service it’s such an amazing experience even as a guardian of a veteran

Baltimore is such a shit hole, but the thing is, there are SO MANY good people living there. I grew up near the city and spent probably years of time of my life in the city. Also the airport is not in Baltimore, but just outside of it. It is in Baltimore county though I believe.

They truly are the greatest generation. God bless all the WW2 veterans.

We're losing these men at an alarming rate. They're all in their 90s if they were young at the time and most of them have past. We must cherish them and record these stories while we can. A decade from now, literally...there will be none left. We must appreciate them and listen to them while we have the chance. Our time...not only theirs, but when it comes to this situation, ALL of ours, is running out. If you know one of these incredible humans, please, I implore you...document their stories before it's too late to share with the world and history.

Please let Milt know he’s not forgotten. He is a hero. Not one of today’s hero’s as the term is thrown around too loosely, but a real hero who gave his body for this country and our way of life. I salute you Milt and all your shipmates!

These stories are a national, even international, treasure. God forbid our country ever let the legends of the greatest generation fade into the past and be forgotten. You are a hero for preserving them.

Thank you for bringing attention to the finest , bravest generation to walk the earth. My Dad made it through the war but wouldn’t speak of it until just before he passed away. The stories were so horrible and my Dad had trouble re-telling them but he told us. I’m so proud of my Father for his part defending his country. Thanks again for delivering such historical content. My great-grandfather drove general McArthur around Okinawa. He was a truck driver and chauffeur to McArthur and I think that that is really cool.

My father is an Air force Vet. I really enjoyed these videos. My dads best friend died. He too was an military vet. I wished someone would done. An documentary on my dads best friend. He was an amazing person. Boy did he had stories. RIP Uncle Frank..

Extraordinary. Thanks to Milt for his lifetime of sacrifice for all of us. I’m so happy he finally received the “welcome home” he so very much deserved. I salute Milt and all our veterans, especially those like my father who bore lifelong suffering and pain from his war injuries (as an 18 year old Marine pilot) without complaint.

Imagine being 18 getting thrown on to a boat to storm a beach. God these men had so much guts. The greatest American generation to live. God bless all ww2 veterans.

I had the honor a couple years back to escort him to center ourt for A cavs game for veterans day. I was. A reservist for the army and worked security for.the court and bakcof the house and i was blessed to walk him out to be recognized! I never heard that stadium so loud. From the championship the previous year. Play offs, LeBron having crazy games, this man, made echo's in that stadium, more than i ever heard. I sat the rest of the game and spoke to him about the war, andhis experiences. After the game, i felt so proud to be an American, a vet, and honored to hear this man's story. God bless him, bless his family amd God Bless America

it breaks my heart to know what a hard time he had after coming back, a man that suffered that much for his country deserved better. i am so happy he was able to attend the anniversary and find what peace r closure he needed. thank you Milton for all you did, and i am ashamed you werent given more respect.

History is so interesting. The world wars really shaped how our world works in so many ways. These wars have really intrigued me for all my life. This channel allows us to have access to so many stories firsthand from the men who served. It’s really an amazing thing.

I am an Indian too. My Grandpa did serve with the British forces in Burma. He never talked much about it. Guess there was too much pain.. Hope Josh Gets the funding to continue with the stories of Soldiers from other countries too.

I am english and my my mother married a american and we moved to the USA when I was 1 year old (he adopted me and I've always looked at him as my real father) we then moved to Germany when I was 10 years old and back to England when I was 13 I'm now 39 years old.. my step father served in the Iraq and Saudi Arabia wars so I grew on on america army bases war changed my father and my mother and him divorced 2 years after he returned from service we moved back to the United kingdom and unfortunately I have never seen my father since.. I to can remember the day he returned the family where so happy and just like the gentlemen in this video I remember the sheer amount of people that gathered to welcome our soldiers back to home soil everyone with flags in there hands waving them in the air as all the soldiers returned the hugging the tears I remember it like it was yesterday I i can remember runing into my fathers arms and hugging him as tight as I could at that moment I though my dad was a hero and one of the bravest men ibhad ever seen he served in the 101st airborn 2nd 17th Cavlery.. many greeting form the UK!

I wish I could shake this man’s hand and thank him for his brave service! As prior service, I felt that to the core when he said he felt forgotten. What a great man.

There is so much value in the history of our country and the honor of those men and women who have served our country in that era. The tremendous amount of duty and service, courage and hard sacrifice of their lives have given the meaning of freedom to us younger generations the owed billing of respect and honor. The valued life lessons in courage and sacrifice from many points of our nation's history should always be a learning opportunity for all civilizations. May the lessons of life in combat and parallels of war give peace a real chance for the good of all mankind.

What impresses me in these interviews is how much respect they usually have for their counterparts. As someone who has never seen the horror of war, I still have trouble grasping how much terror you must have been feeling during those times.

My grandmother's brother survived Pearl harbor. I guess he never talked about it, but from what my grandmother tells me it sounds like he got PTSD from it. They say he was never the same after that.

Thank you for keeping sacred the last of this living history. Lost my brother in 2016, 90 ears of age: Seldon S Eggleston, Galveston, TX. Naval veteran, was at Iwo Jima. Never talked about his experiences, except that he and another sailor sewed the canvas shrouds for liberated Chinese POWs so mistreated by the enemy that every day many had to be buried at sea on the return voyage to China. Rest well, Brother.

It’s sad he passed away such a great man to think such an amazing person was so close to where I live

Just started supporting you on patreon. I wish i could have had you interview my grandfather before he died. He never told me much but after his death, i started tracing his steps through the war. He enlisted in 1939 to get out of the eastern KY coal mines. He was in the 825th Engineer Aviation Battalion, 21st company "I" and landed in Normandy on Dday +1 and went all the way to Berchtesgaden (which i got to visit in 2012.) He was and always will be my hero. Thank you for what you do.

I too am a US Navy Sailor. What can I say that my Brother Sailor didn't say. God Bless him.

My father was a tin can sailor in WWII. When I went in the Navy, he said “Go aviation!” It was the best advise the man ever gave me. 22 years and 4000+ flight hours I retired. Thanks, Dad. I miss ya’.

I met him once when he was volunteering at the museum if you get the chance, go to that museum its purely amazing.

Heartbroken right now. My SIL grandfather just passed away. He had some amazing stories.

I am a Filipina and love watching this memoirs of WW11. I hope you will have time to explore the shipwreck of WW2 in Coron, Palawan, Philippines - those shipwrecks were Japanese ships sunk by brave American soldiers. We gain our liberty because of those American soldiers who fought side by side with our Filipino soldiers. All i can say thank you very much for all the helped. Those shipwrecks are now part of the tourist attractions here in the Philippines, hope someday it will be part of the documentary that we can watch here on you tube. Just found this channel. It made me think of my old neighbor and give him a call to see how he was doing. He was in both WWII and Korea, he is 101 years old at this time.

I can literally look out my window and see pearl harbor. It's exciting to live near history.

5:10 when he was declaring the war, it sent a chill down my spine. To hear those words of war between 2 nations, its terrifying. Though it had already passed, I felt scared after the announcement. Fuck, I am not even an American nor Japanese and this mere announcement scares the shit out of me. Let alone those people actually hearing the announcement of war, I cannot imagine what it is like... I sincerely hope this and future generations will not ever have to experience that sensation and hear any declaration of war.

They are my parents generation. Such a great bunch of people to be raised by!

I had the honor of interviewing a paratrooper from the D-Day invasion when i was in elementary school as part of a project. He had dropped far away from his designated drop zone due the chaos of that day as most of you know. He found shelter in the loft of a barn but Germans were using the barn as well. He stayed up there for 5 or 6 days before the allies lines made their way up to his position. He said he sat up there perfectly silent hoping none of the Germans ever made their way to the loft. They never did. What a story.

I have no words as none over any course of time could do justice beginning to describe how grateful I am for the service of the men and women.

This little story brought tears to my eyes. As an aside, one of my best friends is an Aussi Vietnam veteran, and he said to me. Couple of weeks ago, that books and movies about the war(s) are for the people who weren't there, if you were there, you already knew too much and didn't need to know more. A real survivor, who got on and made the best of his life, despite all the problems he brought back with him, like the subject of this film.

I just found out that Milton pass away, May your soul rest peacfully now in heaven

I went to Pearl Harbor in September of 2017. Super emotional. My great grandfather and my grandfather were both there when it happened. My great grandfather was actually working radar that day. That’s about all I know of his time in the Navy as he passed long ago. Same with my grandfather. He served in the Navy after the war but passed in the late 90’s. Needless to say it felt like I was honoring them and all the other men who served in the Navy during the war by being there. I wear my USS Arizona dog tag every day too. We should never forget the sacrifice the brave soldiers of this war made for our freedom.

The Service Mr. Mapou gave to his Country was further amplified as a volunteer with the Military Museum, sharing Living History with the static displays. What a treasure. Thank you, Veterans. I had a discussion with a man at work in 1962, who was at Pearl Harbor when it was attacked. He was only 37 years old, because he lied about his age and joined the Navy at 16. He told how he was at the mess hall and heard the explosions and gunfire, so they came out on the elevated porch, and suddenly a Japanese plane came in and began strafing them. He said he was saved because he dove under the porch for cover. It was fascinating to hear the story from a survivor, but he still had a far away look in his eyes as he spoke. He was from Houston, TX, and his name was Jim.

This channel put the history channel to shame. These stories bring tears to my eyes hearing vets share their stories.

I wish I’d see this earlier, I live 15mins away from Groveport Ohio. Also my high schools NJROTC was chosen to participate in the 75th anniversary of Pearl Harbor parade in 2016.

Allegedly my great uncle was on the arizona. Survived and moved back to pa. Met his lover back home. They moved to a small town in texas. Lived and died there. These guys were the real deal.
