1:18 John cut Angel Changretta's eye out. Tommy added the rule of "not to associate with strangers, especially foreigners" you don't know in place temporarily, while he was working for Churchill and the Georgian's, as he didn't know who to trust while that work was going on. Lizzie started dating Angel who they knew, but even though they knew Angel wasn't a threat anymore, Michael (probably to prove himself to Tommy), and John (no doubt because he still loved Lizzie) decided to enforce that rule onto Lizzie and Angel. Yet Polly was still allowed to date Ruben Oliver who even she didn't trust at first, and no-one said a thing to her. 1:29 The assassin was aiming for Tommy, but because of Arthur diving in and rugby tackling him, he ended up shooting Grace in the shoulder instead. He no doubt hit an artery.

I'm not sure I realized it was that bad. Jesus. I'm not sure if I remember Tommy adding that rule (so much happens in every episode), but it might have been a good idea at that point. But I didn't think about Michael being part of the enforcement of it. That's interesting. Also, you're right. No one seemed to care about Ruben, and that dude gives me the creeps. Honestly, they probably made Tommy's life worse by hitting Grace and not him, so it was probably a happy accident for them. I feel fairly certain Tommy would rather be shot himself than Grace.

@@hellohelloitsdana Arthur and Michael said to Lizzie in the corridor when they told her to stop seeing Angel, that "Tommy said no fraternising with foreigners. Tommy gave the same rules to everyone, and you have to follow the rules like everyone else."

I think Tommy was shutting down any sympathy or “condolences” vibes for Grace because he was trying not to crumble. 5:17 The way Polly was looking at him, he could feel it, that’s why he was avoiding eye contact and it’s the same reason why he told Arthur to shut up. Also notice how when Michael said “they wanna call it the Grace Shelby institute” he had to pause for a moment before he could talk

As I'm editing, I'm paying extra attention to John and Lizzy. I didn't realize how important it was at first. I appreciate you bringing it to my attention. Thank you!

@bookboundpodcastreacts it's just that little look between John and Arthur. To me, it's a bit of foreshadowing.

Yeah. I don't think I've watched a single episode where it ended and I was like, 'that was a nice hour of TV, now on the rest of my day.' It's been a struggle not to just binge this.

I know right. Johns audacity is out of this world, yelling in Tommy’s face. He should be ashamed to even be in the same room as him

I don't understand the emotional change of John for Mrs.Changretta

I think John was conflicted because he knew he should follow orders, but Tommy's orders are ones he doesn't usually give. Mrs. Changretta should have been allowed to live (and John and Arthur certainly believed this), but Tommy told them to kill her. Also, they both (John and Arthur) knew her personally and had nothing against her.
