A friend gave me one of these with a broken file. I sent it back to Leatherman asking them to repair it and I would pay the cost. They sent me back a brand new tool free of charge. It stays in my survival kit. :)

Yup and instead of improving upon the juice, squirt, and other tools they discontinued them.

Yeah I don't understand why all their good mts get discontinued. I'd love a mini and crunch
I think it has something to do with cost of manufacture to selling price ratio. Such a tool while a neat idea requires custom parts to work in the form of the grip extenders. Which isn't the case for conventional leathermens that either use interchangeable parts or the same design at a different scale, something far easier to produce in mass. The tool also has a smaller demographic that are likely to use it since it's too big for key chain users while not having all the bells and whistles of its conventional counter part. It being the same reason why you don't see many new economy or budget cars anymore as with a tiny bit more money the same facilities can be used to make cars that sell for a lot more.

@@SAGE795 No indentions? If so makes sense. I had two cars that years later found a console area to store things I never knew until I happened to be under the armrest and it was open and noticed something that looked like it opened. Lol. A tissue box drawer. And one that slid to make it twice as long.
I bought one off of eBay that the previous owner had put a pocket clip on & then removed the blade but added a mini bit driver in it's place. I asked a friend to put the blade back on it for me & try to squeeze a wave scissor & Phillips screw driver on it for me. I haven't got it back yet & I doubt he'll succeed in getting all my wishlist on it, but a guy can dream.

It just occured to me - that double folding tool would be a perfect alternative to something like the SOG Powerpint.
Yep - I've had mine on my belt for nearly 20 years. Really useful bit of kit, and no idea why they stopped making them.
Ok, this I would actually carry.
My dad gave me my Leatherman mini when I was a cub scout. I still have it.
I have a surge that I purchased from Army basic training 5 years ago. And this bad boy….never ceases to amaze me. From deployment to civilian life…it still here when I need it the most.
That thing with a bit driver and scissors would be KILLER. Also, give me a box/package opener over than can opener! C'mon Leatherman!

Leatherman bit extender fits pretty well when folded up. Not actually intended a-la the SOG Powerpint, but definitely increases the usability of the Mini.

I do love my scissors on my free p2 but they are the only thing I would need beyond this file, flathead, can opener, blade and pliers on this compact tool. Bit drivers have such compact ratcheting sets and single 4-8 bit holding screwdrivers there's no sense in trying to include that junk on a quality micro multitool
I couldn't agree more should bring it back and keep innovating
This was my first leatherman. I got it back in '93.
I remember these I think I gave my dad one and a buck tool when they came out
I got one ..excellent edc carry..😎
I still use my $17 leatherman fuse everyday at work since 2007. I've only had to even out the plier tips once 💯

I bent my pliers on a old simple model and sent it in, they replaced it with a latest model at that time. Blew me away!
That is pretty slick
I have a pst that's about 29 years old (2 years older than me) that I got when I was a teenager from a snotty friend who was upset that his grandfather gave it to him for his birthday, so he happily gave it to me when I said I'd take it if he didn't want it. It's been my favorite tool for the last 14 years and it's held up perfectly fine. Got a T4 recently and all the tools loosened within a week of use. Definition of "they don't make em like they used to"
I've still got my leatherman mini
Have the 40 year old version and idk what I’d do without it the thing is a powerhouse of a tool and it holds up like nobody’s business they knew what they were doing when they made it
I would 100% buy this. On launch.
Just picked one up on eBay and I'm loving it. It's everything I need and nothing more. I wish Leatherman still had that mindset rather than manufacturing redundant and inefficient tools with 5 screwdrivers and 2 knives like the Free P4.
I can get on board with one like that. It strips down and improves on things you need.
Dang never seen one of those before! They need to bring something like that back
I bought that Flissa clone you mentioned. I have that next to a Leatherman Rev and Bolster, which obviously are a step down, but you can look at them side to side. It was all pretty ok with the clone but then I put all three in the dishwasher because the others had been used and the Flissa was grimy out of the box. All three are developing rust in spots. I'm shocked and disappointed and obviously ignorant of how to treat tools which I thought were stainless steel. Obviously the hot dry function of the dishwasher is insufficient. But I really wouldn't have expected them to suffer so from a little wetting. Must I take them down to pieces and scrub everything out with steel wool or a steel brush or brass brush or Scotchgard...scotchgard won't get in the little nooks and crannies...oy. I certainly wouldn't want the pliers spring in the Rev to fail. Anyway, I was going to let you know how the clone rusted, but again, so did the Leatherman tools. What's a better way to clean these machines? Was I fine but I should have taken them straight out of the dishwasher and into a 350 oven? Or what?
@GerstBladeworks
Жыл бұрын
Just clean them up with isopropyl alcohol, dry them thoroughly and then use nano oil to coat it in a light coat of oil. Since you already have rust, you'll need to remove it building a copper or brass wire brush and some of that oil. Drying by hand is sufficient, you don't need to put it in the dishwasher or oven lol
@maxlvledc
Жыл бұрын
You would 100% need to oil them after....I've never put a Multitool in the dishwasher..it's asking for rust inside the plier pivot and other areas.
I carry the old style everywhere I go. The non serrated blade and the fact I can flick it open one handed is great.
That’s so cool
This is pretty dang cool. I would buy that now
As cool as that is, I feel I probably would want more tools on it. I bet they could definitely come up with a new design using the concept that I would love!

@@katherinemorgan841I don't care what anyone says, scissors are my favorite.
I have that Leatherman Mini-tool. I used to carry it in my pocket because it's very compact folded. Like others commented: I broke the screwdriver/file trying to unscrew a stuck bolt. It broke near the pivot point base. I also broke the knife tip. Opening many cans is a no-go...because the folding extensions would fold over, hyper-extending past the knurled pivot points for the can opener. The pliers & wire -cutters are still good. I gave it to a female friend to keep a pocket tool in her car. Whenever I drive it, It would always have a Leatherman tool in it for minor roadside repairs.

I used to keep a small strong magnet holding a small fishing hook 🪝 inside the folded area.
I have one from my teen years. Still use it for guitar maintenance.
Working part-time as a security and bouncer, I purchased both the full-size Leatherman and the Minitool. I stuck with the Minitool because I never wanted to turn into one of those security guards equipped with a Batman belt.
My dad gave me this exact leather-man as a gift with my name engraved on it & it’s my daily carry for work & EDC!
I got a leatherman signal and use it every day for landscaping, fishing, motorcycle repair and lots more. It’s the survival version and just has lots of really good stuff i carry it every day.
Thats slick. Still after having both the gerber and leatherman one hand operation models ill never go back to fold open design

Like the little one with the scissors and carabiner like the skeletool. Gutted I've lost mine
Funny you used the Squirt for scale: I have a Radio Shack Leatherman Squirt which I bought in the early 2000s when I was doing electronics work. Instead of pliers, it has a wire stripper, cutter, and a tiny portion at the end for "crimping." I still use it here and there to this day.
I have the one on the left, love it
My first actual Leatherman was that one, I've had 2. More compact back from a time in my life when that mattered.
The red mini leather man is hands down the best tool for cutting rocks, cuts super precise and clean, leaving minimal powder, best tool of my former trade If you know, you know lol
Seen nothing like this since except every multi tool pocket knife since
It’s awesome I love mine
I never saw this tool. My brother gave me a PST as a gift back in 1996 or 97, and I bought a Micra a few years after that, but didn't follow Leatherman's tool evolution like my brother did so it was easy for me to miss 😅
I've been EDC'ing my Super Tool 300 for 20+ years, and I'd just about change to this one if I could.
I have had several over many years. Lifetime warranty. I presently carry a Core everyday for about ten years.
I found one of these on a walk, great tool
I've got my original PSA and mini that I bought in 1988. I have quite a few Leathermans and I think their early tools were better quality than what they're putting out now. Fit and finnish as of late is lacking and the prices are getting ridiculous for what you get
Bring it back!

I have the RadioShack version of that squirt man the one with the extendable handles what the hell why don't they still make that. Nuts best ideas ever
I have a leatherman mini.tool. actually have 2 my brother gave me one for my birthday and Christmas years ago
I own ~10 different modern leathermans, but the heritage PST is still my favorite by far. It's sleek and IMO more modern looking in a way that newer "one hand open" tools can't achieve, because the tools are all hidden in the frame. It's optimized for carrying efficiently, rather than ease of deployment. I'm okay with that trade off since I spend 99.9% of the time carrying it.
Got one of those original steel ones from 1993 my dad passed down to me
Love the mini. I bought two, but lost one in Alaska. The other one is on my belt buckle.
that looks handy actually ,,,
I carry my late grandpa's OG leatherman
I don't know. I really love my Leatherman Crunch and my Leatherman Wave+
I want that little guy 😢
I still have the black version. One of the best!
That may be one of the coolest tools I've ever seen as far as multitools go and if Leatherman would stop being silly and put that back out I guarantee it would sell, I know I would buy one. They could somewhat modernize it and make it like a Leatherman wave style and I guarantee it would be a hit but even if they left it completely original and reintroduced it it would be a hit
That was my first leatherman
Put a 1/4" socket/driver on it, and this would be my go to. I currently carry the SOG half pint or whatever it's called, basically because it's small. With a tiny case full of common sockets, bits, and a 1/4" magnetic drill tip, the SOG can handle just about every small task I run into when my actual tools are too far away
🤔 A couple more tools in the handles like scissors, bit driver etc. and I'm in. Why is this not a thing already?
WOW, love that mini tool.
The free p4 hasn't been around long and is top 3 Leathermans ever made. Screw the ones without a lock I cannot count how many times I was hurt because of that design (as a kid anyway)
Had one loved it.
I found one buried in the sand at moraine state park in butler along with many other plier tools and lures, didn't know it was such a commodity
DAWG I HAVE ONE ITS MY EDC TO THIS DAY!!! Its like a mini transformer in a pocket knife form keep one if u get one if you break it you can flick the pliers open butterfly knife style in the nonextended form its a sick knife
I’m currently carrying a Leatherman surge
That is a nifty tool!
I want one ❤
I managed to get one locally a year or two ago. While it's lacking a tool set, I do think it's a concept worth revisiting. Add a bit driver at the end or blade exchanger etc
Now a day's, with almost everyone doing edc, leatherman should probably try bringing it back for another run.
I got one in my safe❤ Got issued a Gerber MP600 so it’s hardly used. But it shure is a cool little tool.👍🏻
I have 2 of these and would buy a new one.
I still have one in my drawer😅
I inherited 2 Blue Leatherman squirt mini tools from my dad.
Those handles are perfect, one problem I always have is hurting my bare hands by trying to squeeze hard on something (usually a bolt head because I dont have a wrench)
I had a little red squirt back in the day haha ah man
