I admit that this experiment of attempting to compare my thoughts of the Peachtree Nova150 against the other more expensive units I've owned, did not have the desired effect or translate as I had hoped. As I have said several times, when comparing integrated amps that are so closely priced together, their sound signatures are equally close in comparison. I also forgot to mention the Micromega IA-400, from France. A top 5 integrated I owned a few years ago. I wish I had that one around to still compare, it had a very unusual power layout (also hybrid class d). Nevertheless, I will rely less on so many direct comparisons and just relay how it treats the speakers I have on hand. Thanks ya'all.

I like the comparisons and fact that you keep equipment you like. "King of the Hill," if you will. It's a different and refreshing change and I think more closely follows what we as average audiophiles tend to do. We constantly change equipment keeping the best of what we like hoping to one day reach the pinnacle of our desired sound signature.

That Loki is probably the most useful and incredible upgrade/addition to this whole system. The Peachtree is amazingly neutral on its own, but for those flat sounding recordings, the Loki launches the whole system into a whole other level.

Hi Gennaro, congrats with the ZU DW. I would only caution that when looking at integrating your 5.1 set up, all five channels have the same type of amplification, otherwise you will not get matching sound. If you are on a tight budget, Emotiva makes some pretty good double duty amps for the money.

Ive owned my Nova300 for 2 years - I learned a couple things about it watching this vid. Thanks for that! I auditioned this amp at a store that sold McIntosh and Marantz - the Peachtree won out. Heard it in a professional sound studio with B&W speakers. Took it home and have loved the sound and the simplicity. My wife likes it too for the reasons of simplicity that you pointed out. I also have a Willsenton R8 Tube amp, love it too but the peachtree is the family favorite.

As an owner of a Nova 150 for more than four years, I can agree with the main points of this video. One thing that the narrator couldn't or didn't mention is the reliability of the amp. Mine has performed without problem , making it almost boring with its availability for service. For those who wince at what I think is a reasonable price for the performance delivered, Peachtree offers factory refurbished models on both its website and Ebay store. If you get on their email list, you'll find that they offer trade in deals for purchasing new products at least two times a year. With free FedEx shipping, a thirty day trial offer, and a three year warranty after registering your purchase on line, there's a lot of value in the Nova 150. Having 150 WPC at hand isn't a bad thing at all.

Great review! I picked up a Nova150 a few years ago for $400, it is a terrific unit that drives my Wharfedale towers to the moon. It is decent on my Magnepan MMG but pukes it’s guts out and falls apart trying to drive my 1.7i which is not a problem since I did not purchase it to drive those speakers. I think most people will be extremely pleased with the Nova150. Keep up the great content!

@@2ChannelListening So maybe you could recommend a pair of bookshelf speakers that would pair well with the Nova 150? I'm looking for something non fatiguing and I listen to a lot of bass heavy synthesized music (yes hip hop), classic rock, R&B. I have a couple of SVS SB3000's for low-end. Currently I have Klipsch Rp600m, Elac B6.2, Emotiva T1 and T2, so nothing too special. I sold my primary speakers a few months ago, Revel F208. Way too big for my current room(town house) and while not bad sounding at all, just not necessarily my cup of tea, if that makes sense. I bought them because of the stellar measurements and universal praise, but they just didn't give me an emotional reaction. A few models I'm considering are Dynaudio Evoke 20, Sonus Faber Sonetto, Tekton Impact monitor or possibly "small towers" such as Tekton Lore. I'd like to cap the price at 2k. I'm sure you get bombarded with these questions, and I know all you can do is recommend some models to check out, as opinions and preferences vary. I would very much appreciate your input if you have any you can offer. Thank you again, your video journey has been extremely entertaining and interesting to follow.

Thanks for another insightful review Jason. You make a valid point how many watts does one really need? I know that my case I only have 60 watts per channel, but it has more than enough headroom based on the moderate volume levels I normally listen at. I very rarely find the need to play past one third of the volume that my vintage H-K receiver is capable of producing. Let me put it another way. Say, for example, that I was playing an accoustic guitar and I recorded it. When playing it back I would try play it back I would try to listen at the same volume it was recorded it. When would a non amplified 6 sting ever come close to the volume of an F-15 making a sonic boom? Just saying....

Also may complain about the horrible Volume" section. What's your take on that ? Annyway, in case I would use this amp with a receiver. Shouldn't the Amp volume be cranked all the way up and my volume adjusted from the receiver thereafter, thus not havinfg to deal with the amp. volume ? I've often wondered what's going on with seeing so many refurb units as well. Knock on wood, each of the Peachtree products I've owned did not give me trouble. As for the horrible volume section, I really liked my Nova 150, I think it was an improvement upon the much more expensive Grandpre model, therefore I can only say good things about it. If you have to choose between the Peachtree and the Red Dragon amps you have reviewed, which of the two would you recommend and the better one?

  • @2ChannelListening

    @2ChannelListening

    2 жыл бұрын

Hello Victor, here's the real line in the sand; the Red Dragon's are mono blocks, one still would have to add a preamp with a good dac or add a third box, thus the price becomes more than twice the offering of the Nova150. The level of performance the Nova150 offers (especially on the used market) is really exceptional. The separates I had driving the Red Dragons represent a 3x cost for maybe 15% better sound quality top to bottom, total pushing the room boundary envelop. Many folks are not able to stretch that far for such diminishing returns. It is not a fair fight given the top shelf preamp I had driving those Red Dragons. Honestly, the Mark Levinson No.331 is still my preferred amp to the Red Dragons. If I were to build a one off system again, in a dedicated room, I probably would go back to full separates. If I were to spend the money, I would be very interested in the newest Peachtree separates. Does this help?

It had good control of the woofer. Out of curiosity, what is your least favorite aspect of how your 2XT perform? I will let you in on a seldom talked about fact; the most lowliest of speakers can surprise listeners when connected with moderately well built front end components. I've been one of the few willing to put five figure front ends with $300 speakers and $300 integrated amps with five figure speakers. Amazing discoveries happen when preconceived notions and paper specs are suspended from the experiment. Maybe hold on to your PSB a bit longer until you can try some different amps and sources? Just a thought, maybe a hunch. Thank you Bill.

I choose the Marantz because it had good reviews (I wish I knew more 3 years ago) for two channel stereo which is far more important to me than AV. That is what led me to looking for a Nova150 to drive my 2 main speakers and utilizing the pass through when watching video. From you comments above you think it is worth a shot on giving the 2XT a chance with the Nova150 before parting with them. Thanks Bill

Hello Craig, like so many of the whopper big vintage receivers, you will hear better balanced mid and upper range frequencies with newer integrateds. You might even think you lost some of the bass punch, when in fact you are just hearing more of everything. That would be my bet, based on some experience with your question. Of course, if you used the tone controls to flesh out the mids and treble, then all bets are off on how much of a difference one might hear through the DX-7's.

Just because a piece within my budget, it doesn't mean that I'm gonna run out and buy it. Let us use the Naim that you were discussing in your post. I'm sure that we can both agree that it's built with quality parts. Then objectively we both can agree that it's a good piece to own .Now comes the "fun" part of this hobby, the subjective part. Does a piece have a sonic signature that you enjoy? Does it have a good synergy with the gear you already own? Those are questions that only you can answer for yourself . Just because a piece measures well, isn't the only reason to buy it (at least for me). Numbers are a good starting point, I grant you, but we might disagree about our own impressions of the presentation and the musicality of a piece of equipment. Buy what sounds best to you. That has always been my bottom line, for what ever it's worth.

The Decco does not share the same dac or the same amp modules, nor did I say it did. I also mentioned that the volume control of the Nova150 is superior. For $600 on the used market, the Decco is awesome. For $1,200 on the used market, the Nova150 is superior to it and the Naim. I hope this clarifies things for everyone. We all have to remember that a $600 jump for some folks is a very large amount and that musical bliss can be found at that budget. The AR's might be a stretch for power needs and I cannot recommend Maggie 1.7's for the Nova 150, you would need the 300.

Love the perspective. I've noodled this and the Heaven11 Billie more than once. Bother are super intriguing at this price point, along with the Rogue Sphinx V2. But I'm kind of stuck in that diminishing returns thing. I'm using an Anthem MRX 520, which cost about the same, and I'm just not sure where stuff in this price point would take me. On one hand, I'm using a 5.1 receiver to masquerade as a two-channel amp and that feels wrong. On the other, I feel pretty confident that with the amp in 2-channel direct mode, I'm not getting a lot of artificial processing and all I'm really doing is wasting three other outputs. Plus, the MRX 520 has a nice suite of DSP, including Anthem Room Correction. I'm not using any of that right now but I like having the option for later tweeking/testing.

Anthem makes terrific products David. At two channels driven, you are getting great, clean power from a 520. You are correct, it's harder to make big improvements when you are swimming in the same price pond. With the Nova150, you get a great flexible unit, with the Rogue and Billie, you still need an outboard DAC. By the way, I really want to try one of those Billie 11's too!

@@2ChannelListening That's the thing right? That thing we chase and wonder.... Am I getting the "best" sound I can for the money. It's silly really... and ironically John Darko kind of addressed this with today's video on turntables. He debunks the idea of "this blows that out of the water." At these price points, we're all getting really good gear and the differences aren't often dramatic. But there's wonderlust too right? Just hearing different gear and trying different combinations. It's one of the things that drew me to your channel... you're kind of living that dream. The Billie does have two digital inputs (optical) but I believe you're correct in the Sphinx being analog only. There are so many good, inexpensive DACs out there, it doesn't seem like much of an issue.

@@2ChannelListening Hi, no, I am not sure you understood. Your true cadence is completely normal speed. I think it's YT that for whatever reason uploaded your video with a .75 speed instead of 1.00. , which for viewers that don't notice might feel like Dyshartria and could make then switch for another review due to overslow speech speed, without realising that the speech speed is a mistake, and then, so much for the advertising in the vids that help you with your content, if they switch vid. before its end. Just to say, and I don't even know if it's fixable after posting. Anyway, best...

Cross, I think that once we get past the objective reasons (to get a new component) and get into the subjective is what makes this hobby fun for me. Only you can decide what sounds best to your ears, what I feel might be different. However, we both are entitled to our own opinions. My Dad used to say "Opinions are like assholes, in the final solution you can only use your own." I think, if you can apply this maxim when get new gear, you will usually be pleased with the end results.
