Peacherine Rag (Scott Joplin) played by me in public

Музыка

This was the second time I played in public, recorded in the same place as my "The Entertainer" video, only with a different piano. Though, after watching this afterwards I feel like I hurry through the song, I think this tempo is slightly too fast.
This video took place inside a second hand store, my grandmother had been talking with the owners which were happy to have me playing there.
Recorded on the 14th of April in 2022 (day of upload) using a Zoom H1n microphone with no effects, a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge and an Iphone.
That piano was on sale for 1200kr ($126,06), it had a few keys that were stuck and the plastic keys had fallen off, leaving me playing on white wood.

I always considered the chorus starting at 1:50 to be Scott Joplin's best passage.

I can't imagine going about my daily life, walking past you playing this on a public piano, and just paying no attention. You are incredible. You play fantastically. I devoted so many hours to learning just 2 Scott Joplin songs, neither of which I can play nearly as well as you do. It is so much fun! And if I were to hear you playing some ragtime in public I would be SOOOO excited to sit down and hear you out. You're so good! Keep up the brilliance.

Thank you so much for your incredibly kind words and appreciation! Your comment truly brightened my day. It means a lot to me that my piano playing resonates with you and brings you joy. Sadly, us Swedes tend to "stay out of people's way", as evident in this video. But believe me, they are listening, even if they aren't showing it! It's wonderful to know that my passion for ragtime music could potentially bring delight to others in public settings. I'll definitely strive to keep up the brilliance and continue sharing my love for this genre. Scott Joplin's music is indeed amazing, and I understand the dedication it takes to learn and play his compositions. I have played piano for about four years now. And during that time, I have played more than 1 to 2 hours every single day, just because I love the music. By the way, which Joplin tunes are you learning?

@@Tarzoq I inherited a piano about 8 years ago and quickly realized how much I liked it. I learned all the notes, major and minor chords, and then decided that I was ready to learn Maple Leaf Rag. Ha. Probably not the smartest way to learn piano, I should have started out with Mary Had a Little Lamb or something, but I practiced and practiced and I finally got it down. After that I learned Gladiolus Rag which I enjoyed even more. I haven't really learned any other songs since then, I usually just mess around with chords and scales.

@@giveyourselfahandle Nice, I guess we learned to play the same way! :D I actually haven't learned Gladiolus Rag yet, but from reading your comment I went ahead and played it through a couple of times. While playing it all I could think was that it seemed to be a big step from Maple Leaf Rag, so I am very impressed that you managed to learn that right after Maple Leaf Rag. Recently I got into jazz chords, stuff like b9 11 chords. I have had a lot of fun learning the patterns and I am now messing around with jazz chords in regular tunes. :D

I agree, that store has had some pretty good sounding pianos so far. And thank you! I have been playing piano for close to 3 years now and I'm very impressed with what I have accomplished, and many pianists have said to me that I am very good. But since I only play ragtime which none of the pianists has, I don't really have anyone to compare my progress with. Which makes me wonder if I am as good as I think I am.

It was actually surprisingly good sounding, when judging by how it looked on the keys, I expected it sound a lot worse. Since the microphone was placed on the inside of the piano you can't really hear how the piano sounded like on the outside. Which was a big difference. That is my grandmother, she is the one who recommended me to play at this place(second hand store). I figured more camera angles would liven up the video.
