I remember one unusually hot Summer, when the temperature was over 100 degrees, and even though my heart was all in for fishing, riding my bike, or playing outside, the intense heat decided for us. So, I decided to go to the coolest room in the house which happened to have a record player with huge panasonic speakers hooked up to it. I wasn't familiar with several of my brothers records laying beside it, but I did like the artwork of the one with the big alien guitar saucer on it. Putting it on, the needle dropped, and I loved the first track instantly as I was greeted by a beautiful twelve string acoustic guitar playing that riff we all recognise today. I bet I listened to that for several hours that day, on my knees, as the air conditioner blasted out the coldest air which flowed just under the old table by way of a deflector over the vent pointed right at me. That day changed me forever! Tom Scholz inspired me to want to learn the guitar. As I listened to Tom's guitar scream out those wonderful melodies, and the big smooth guitar bends played over the crunchy mesmerizing riffs, I knew, that's what I wanted to do. That was the first time I heard Boston and certainly wasn't the last, as I found the next album in my brothers collection. Later in the eighties, Third Stage was released and it also was classic Boston at their finest.
Sorry for the long description, but I thought I would share this with you all, as Tom is the reason I started playing and his incredible sound made me want to try to play more like him. Next I would discover Eric Clapton who had a big influence on me. Sadly, Brad Delp, the singer of the band passed away some years ago and at some point I would like to do a tribute song cover.
