Cornwallis was in reality so ashamed that he had his 2nd in command (Gen. O'Hara) relinquish his sword. Both Rochambeau and Washington refused the sword and instead directed O'Hara to give it to Gen Lincoln, as a consolation for the surrender of Charleston earlier in the war.

That was only on the second try. On the first go around, it fell all the way down to the most disreputable soldier in the English Army and the most disreputable one in the Continental Army. When the time came for the surrender, though, they were no where to be found. It was only after three days had passed after the actual surrender that hey were both found holed up in a tavern 15 miles away, having drunk their way through a year's wages.

Wait, Cornwallis had returned to England. While in the world would he ever return to America to surrender? Why not just stay in England and avoid surrendering to Washington? ... Also, George Washington was obviously so stupid to allow Cornwallis to easily flea to Britain. If the battle had started over again, it's George Washington's fault. ... Also also, In reality, Cornwallis didn't actually want to meet George Washington and surrender to him. This cartoon is so stupid and historically inaccurate that it makes people believe that Washington had actually chopped down a cherry tree.

I love Mr.Peabody puns at the end of each episode.....he sounds like Niles from Frasier but I know these date back to the 60s
Thank you so much for bringing back one of the best cartoons ever made
My favorite lines have always been: "Don't fire till you see the whites of their eyes." "But General Washington, they're all wearing sunglasses!"
To enjoy these guys in their day, it presumed you knew the history first, great cartoons.

BEST thing to do, clip convert and burn! Have them forever. There was a channel by, BORIS FAN 1, that had HOURS of episodes. They got me thru a major illness for 2 years. Unfortunately YT had him take all the episodes down
I don't know how do these flat, 2D characters feel SO much more alive than any 3D CGI.
I use to watch this around 3am back in the days.

Fritz Duquesne Actually, *Cornwallis was so embarrassed by the defeat that he pretended to be sick, rather than surrender in person.* In short, his own arrogance was his downfall.

@@jonathanpowell613 actually the French navy that beat the British making resupply or retreat impossible was his downfall. The real hero of the revolution was Comte de Grasse, commander at the Battle of the Chesapeake.

@@jonathanpowell613 maybe it was hubris anyway, they didn’t realize they were being cut off until it was too late and it was over. De Grasse went on to be later defeated by the British and captured but after he had changed the course of history.
I'm surprised that nobody has taken "Mr. Peabody" footage and "Doctor Who" audio and put together an Epic Mash-up
now this is the one I remember, not 3D animated characters with voices that don't even sound like them, even that Simpsons tree house of horror episode got it right as a parody! "Quiet You!"

Mr. Peabody sounded very familiar. I thought it was either an old cartoon or a book.
"I shall go catch a sword" I did not expect him to go fishing for a swordfish. LOL 😆 Oracle ✨🐞🐾🎧

Why didn't Mr. Peabody and Sherman just go back further in time to warn General Cornwallis to not forget his sword?

Wait, Cornwallis had returned to England. While in the world would he ever return to America to surrender? Why not just stay in England and avoid surrendering to Washington? ... Also, George Washington was obviously so stupid to allow Cornwallis to easily flea to Britain. If the battle had started over again, it's George Washington's fault. ... Also also, In reality, Cornwallis didn't actually want to meet George Washington and surrender to him. This cartoon is so stupid and historically inaccurate that it makes people believe that Washington had actually chopped down a cherry tree.

@@spencerfrankclayton4348 Actually, the censors were terrified at how Jay Ward, Bill Scott, and the other writers wanted people to laugh at famous historical figures, especially American figures. They rejected one story where Peabody helped Francis Scott Key write The Star Spangled Banner.
