i don’t think people are talking about the opening scenes as much. The implications of Mr Peabody being a sadistic psychopath, turning the tragic, fiery deaths (that he may have caused) of hundreds of souls into a simple “memory” to be “treasured” with Sherman. And Sherman, who’s been raised to be numb to other’s pain, sorrow, and death, is just too young to know the difference between right and wrong, and has no comprehension of what’s really happening. Mr Peabody sees himself as a god, a god who can go anywhere, at any time, and sees no problem with how he’s indoctrinated Sherman into his psychopathy, after all, there isn’t any flaw to his way of thinking, is there? Although Sherman wasn’t inherently evil, it’s simply too late for him, he cant be taught empathy, he’s become a monster, just like his father. A misled, innocent child. Peabody defied God when he first traveled through time, and Peabody knew that this infinitely painful fate would come for him, a fate where he - and his son - would be trapped for eternity beyond the universe, incapable of hurting anyone ever again. Maybe God regretted giving his creation free will. He wept.

This reminds me of Steven Kings “The Jaunt” in 1987 humanity discovers faster than light travel but when tested on mice they come back oddly. They simply stand there and don’t move and then only moments later dying. When done on a death row inmate who was promise a full pardon by performing “the jaunt” he came back with a dead expression and simply uttered the words “it’s eternity in there” and then instantly dies from a seizure only later do they find out that people can only do “the jaunt” by being unconscious. In the future a man and his family are preparing for a trip to mars and the father tells his daughter and son about the jaunt and why they have to be unconscious to do so. They all go under anesthesia but the son holds his breath out of curiosity and they wake up on mars and the son wakes up screaming “LONG JAUNT DAD! LONGER THAN YOU THINK! LONGER THAN YOU THINK” while clawing his eyes and ears out.

It’s a paradox. History is changed when Peabody interferes but nothing changes its course. Davinci still painted the Mona Lisa w the help of Peabody, yet it’s not a branched timeline. Peabody keeps world order so nothing gets branched out. So no alternate universe exist but time is still linear. One timeline one universe. That being said, Sherman went to a point in time where it didn’t even exist. Made a wormhole jump to nowhere or when. Outside reality and linear time. And it didn’t create a new timeline bc reality doesn’t exist where time doesn’t exist. Way back only travels by time warping/jumping from point to point. hence the black hole accident in the movie. So they vanished atom by atom in a horrific way. Kinda like being spaghetified when you’re near a black hole another moment in reality where time and space is warped. But atleast in a universe so you don’t vanish

He did mess up last time when the wabac almost got destroyed being trapped in a black hole an anomoly where time and space are warped. Luckily they jumped to a near moment in time where everything exist this moment being the Trojan horse a real moment in the timeline As the wabac does function as a “portal” wormhole that fazes the timeline into a short cut it .happened when there were 2 Sherman’s at one point but corrected itself when they merged but then messed up the fabric of time due to his past and future merging in. like if a paper having 2 points on each side . Paint A being there present and point B is any moment in time before their present self’s. Technically the wabac uses those wormholes to fold the paper in half and jump from one side to the other. From point A back to point B, or vice versa since their theoretical point A is their present time and date they currently live in.That being said, if he messes up the travel like imputing a date that didn’t exist previously on a year that wasn’t accounted as a leap year which 1912 WAS . The wabac doesn’t know where to go or land or when to or how to. It escapes the paper. The paper being time and space exist with matter. They faze from reality since there isn’t anything where they ended up. A paradox in a sort. That’s my theory atleast
