PD Simplified | CVT and Paddle Shifters Explained

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

CVTs have existed for a very long time! And their maximised efficiency is the reason why they are so popular. Honda and CVT's relationship is like bread and butter - time-trusted, simple, quick, and there's nothing much that can go wrong! Though Honda has made this even better by pairing the CVT with paddle shifters. More control FTW. Cyrus Dhabhar explains the gearbox and the shifting tech in this episode of PD Simplified.

Thank you! I always wondered how paddles worked on a CVT and this makes a lot of sense, i dont know how i didnt come to this assumption myself, since CVTs are already prone to having issues, does it put extra stress having to rapidly change the positioning of the pulleys when you shift "gears"?

The CVT in the City is definitely more efficient than the conventional Automatic which was there in City a decade ago. But there is one thing that's hugely missing in not just the CVT City but also in many other automatics is that the gear box doesn't hold on to the Reva, it simply upshifts. The

The idea of CVT is optimal RPM for any speed, as the ger ratios can be infinite. If they are limiting the ratios to 7 PRESET ratios, to mimic the traditional TC transmission, how they can achieve the optimal RPM, as the ratios are no longer infinite and need to select from the 7 preset ratios?

7 step is when you take manual control otherwise it's 7000rpm and slowly building up speed.

The ratio’s are infinite when you’re in Drive mode. However you can downshift or upshift to a preset using the paddle shifter in drive mode and the car will handle the rest. Once your car is in Sports mode and a preset is selected you have to shift manually with the 7 preset’s which mimics a 7 speed transmission. Hope I’m right At least I think that’s what my Civic X does

where do people buy, Honda can't come down to Hyundai standers. they can offer prices and features to the benefit to the customer in our very niche market the only cars that they can sell are cars designed for the Indian condition. and to develop those cars they will need to invest a lot, slowly but surely they will bring in new cars but all of it depends on the Philippines market until they demand new models we won't get any that will suit the middle class price range. hr-v is attest passport nd civic has no chance unless they manufacture it here

I don't think Honda is leaving India but its not gonna expand either , Honda Asia is mainly selling cars in Thailand , Singapore followed by phillipines and other countries These asian models are also available in India ( well at least a few of them ) International models like Civic will never return to India imo cuz look at the Camry , it sits too close to proper German cars like 3 series , A4 and C class and pretty much spot on with the fake German cars like superb , A class and 2 series and most Indians buy for brand name only and not actual things the car offers , so Camry sales suck so will Civic since it sits in an unique nice and the HONDA CITY is almost a civic ( almost except for a few luxury feautures and the 2.0 vtec ) IMO honda will stay in India and it'll sell the City ( segment topper and biggest competitor to Slavia / Vitrus and VAG botched the sales with the prices and basing it on the cheaper Indianised platform ) , Amaze ( again , segment topper in the sub 4 meter sedan class excluding fleet sales which is obv topped by the DZIRE ) and probably a few SUV in the sub compact , compact and hopefully in the full size SUV class but I feel that there will maximum be 2 suvs from honda , a subcompact like WRV based on Jazz or a new subcompact based on 2nd gen Amaze platform to compete against the like of venue and a compact based again on the Jazz / City platform to compete against the likes of Creta and it'll also sell the Jazz which isn't the best in its segment but its outdated now , hence we can't compare the sales figures . So essentially all honda cars would share the same base platform , reducing production costs and streamline production and offer the same reliability honda is known for . This is the only way for honda to survive in India , if it tries to become Hyundai by offering cheaper cars with lower build quality and lower reliability with more tech , old school honda fan bois like myself will find no purpose in buying a honda and pretty much most honda buyers are car buyers who owned or experienced a honda before . If this Hyundai transformation occurs to honda , it'll be the sad demise of Honda in my books .
