I had bad blister to the back of the foot (raw) and I lost the skin of the right pad, about an inch round. I was wearing boots that had steel caps and were way too big unnoticed on flat lands but on hills it was. With trail shoes I didn't get blisters well one tiny one which wasn't sore. I'd teva sandals too which are heavy but great for evenings and switching it during tge day. Waterproof shoes in dusty areas I think can clog up. They also dry out much slower. Nice town for zeros. I did a zero when my feet were bad and little mosquitoes caused a outbreak of hives (50 on my right arm) all over exposed skin. I got antistamines and got better then. Then I walked 50 km to catch up, the last day then I did 70 km about 9 days after that. Very easy flat trail and I'd been walking 30 days, you get stronger as you go. But if you've yhe wrong shoes it's not worth doing. That and shelter from cold are the two most important things I think. That band aid was a good idea.

Interesting those are hiking boots. I thought everyone wears trail runners. I wear Merrils half boots myself. Sure they are a few ounces more than trail runners, but they are great for snow/ice and especially walking down hill. You can keep back straight, relax and drive the heels into the ground without worrying about crushing toes. Also, perfect for getting through the river section(mission creek and white water) walking over loose stones. Smiles everyone.

Feet swell a lot during long hikes. You may need shoes that are 2 sizes larger than normal. So what feels perfect when you’re resting may be tight and painful in a hike.
