I LOVE all of your videos about living in Germany. I am also a military wife, my husband is U.S. Air Force and we were at the Spangdahlem Air Base and let me tell you I have NOT gotten over leaving and It's been a year since we left. Is it crazy that I cried leaving Germany on the plane? Its my favorite place in the world. LOL. I also cannot stand hot weather and loved those cold spurts in Germany during the summer too! just LOVED them. and although it gets cold, I love the weather and the seasons. There is just something about Germany and Europe that captured my heart. The small towns and lush greenery, and the peaceful way of life compared to the U.S. etc. And traveling throughout Europe was wonderful, I found all of Europe just beautiful. It was a great point that you made about making sure to inform everyone to bring a traveler's passport in order to travel within Germany, that is extremely important. I loved Germany so much that I plan on moving there for good there once my husband retires. The day I left I knew I had to retire there, my husband is on the fence about it. Living in FL now and was prior to going to Germany only makes me miss it more, it's 100 degrees and horrible, similar to TX. I will be following your story and good luck on the next PCS. I have also wanted information on Colorado Springs, CO for a possibly move there and was happy you also have posted on this, just weary of the cost of living. Loved your posts :)

I've been born and raised in Ansbach and it is very interesting for me to get some insider's insight about how life behind these fences is like 🙂 Since my childhood I always wondered about that (back then the Hindenburg Barracks were still used by U.S. military, which is now the University and the "Brückencenter" shopping mall). I wish you and your family a pleasant stay in my home town 🙂 - I always liked it there. A small town from an American perspective, yes... but everything you need is there; I remember we hardly ever had to go to Nuremberg for something that would not be available in Ansbach. And the landscape is just so beautiful 😍 - you should definitely try hiking in the forests or doing some bicycle tours 😊

My dad was stationed at Hindenburg kaserne from 1985-87, we lived in Bleidorn housing and I went to Ansbach American High School. I also played on a German soccer team down from Bleidorn by the train tracks call ESV Ansbach/Eyb. We left for Fort Knox Kentucky where I graduated in 1988. I then joined the army and found myself back in Ansbach in December 1988. Needless to say all of my high school friends and teachers were shocked to see me again. I ❤️ Ansbach

Great video Ashley! I lived in Fulda (an hour or so by train) below Frankfurt in the Reinhessen region. I loved it and taught at the elementary/high school on post for DODDS for three years. I loved living in Germany and enjoyed the travel, food, wine, shopping, etc. so much. My house is still full of things I got in Germany including my schrank. It's fabulous and I enjoyed the way of life so much over there!

Make sure you check out Zeppelinhaupttribüne (Nazi Rally Grounds), Pizzeria Lammbock (our favorite pizza restaurant), the Nuremberg Trials Courthouse and the Castle! Nuremberg is really cool! Let me know if you need any help with anything while you’re over here 😊

We are headed to Wiesbaden in October and we are so excited! Your videos have helped so much and just make me more excited to go! My questions are how is it finding a job on base? I have heard it takes a while and i am nervous about finding a job. and how do you budget for travel? It's just my husband and I and we want to travel as much as we can when we are there. Are there any apps you use to help with booking affordable flights or hotels? Thank you again for your viseos they help out so much! ❤

That's so exciting! Finding a job on base is kind of difficult. I recommend checking out usajobs.gov now so you can get an idea of what will be available to you. It took me 8 months from the application to my first day. Travel is extremely cheap in comparison to the US! You will also receive COLA which is essentially a small boost of pay every month that you could set aside for travel. I use booking.com, Ryan Air for flights, and we have an American Express card so we use their travel to get points to use for bigger trips. I highly recommend looking into a travel credit card if that's something you're comfortable with because the points are awesome if you plan on traveling most four day weekends! DM me on instagram if you have any other questions 😊

I was in Ansbach from 72-91. We lived in housing in Katterbach. I went to school there from K-12. Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade were on the left side of the high school…..3rd and 4th in Bleidorn, 5th and 6th in Barton and then 7 thru 12 at the high school. It’s home to me. I lived in Bldg O Apt 3.

That is so cool to hear! Ansbach has been so great to us! We are so lucky to have gotten the chance to spend almost 4 years here. I would love to have spent as much time as you did! Now the schools are right next to each other, both on Katterbach. I’d be curious to see what is different now from when you were here! It seems to change a bit every year! Let me know if you’d like any pictures or information about anything here now 😊

I am so sorry, but I do not have any information about jobs as most American spouses are not allowed to work off post. I know there is a Hochschule in Downtown, but again I was told I could not take a class there because we are here on a different type of Visa.
