I’m a Western Australian farmer and life long plane buff. Always dreamt of Getting a 12 after rfds used our strip for a medical emergency some 20 years ago and now following the development of the 24. I read an article saying gravel certifications only just begun, I hope for the rfds sake Pilatus don’t now discover it needs more than the 820metres to get off the deck at MTOW.

An absolutely fantastic, functional, and versatile aircraft with only one minor drawback - the restroom. I think it should be situated in the rear so that one feels like one has a little privacy. The Phenom 300E wins hands down with its restroom design. However, the PC-24's overall footprint is absolutely phenomenal since it can access airfields its competitors can't, so the restroom flaw is not necessarily a deal breaker per se. But Pilatus should take a hard look at a redesign for future developments.

I don't see a cargo door on the Phenom, which is a pretty big deal when you have to load stretcher patients.

unapro3: I agree. But I already said that the PC-24 was "An absolutely...functional, and versatile aircraft..." So no arguments there as one agrees with Pilatus' mission statement about its prodigy. However, the restroom design can potentially be a big deal to some as it's just not that conducive to privacy. Some females will have an issue with it and just think about all of the problems that can arise at 41,000 feet that may require a restroom visit. Especially on an aircraft, like the PC-24, that has exceptional range - 2,243 miles to be exact.

When designing an aircraft you have to be mindful of what goes where. Placing items down the rear of the aircraft has a huge effect on the centre of gravity. Usually the centre of gravity is roughly midway from the front of the wing to the rear of the wing. So if you picture in your head the distance form this point to the rear of the aircraft, you will see this is quite a long way. this is the "arm", for a given weight, the longer the arm the greater force it exerts, it's "moment". So to explain it in layman's terms (I apologise if you already know this stuff) the further back something is fitted in an aircraft, the more it weighs. Because the PC24 is being designed with a cargo door means a lot of stuff can be loaded in the back, like two stretchers. By placing all the gear needed for a toilet in the rear, you immediately limit what can be placed in the rear. I realise you weren't "bagging" the 24, I was just trying to explain some limitations that preclude having a dunny down the back.

unapro3: I totally understand. And I can't nor will I refute your summarization. However, Pilatus has built a solid and well-deserved reputation for engineering excellence. Therefore, one has no doubt that they could design a PC-24 unit with a vacuum toilet and private restroom in the rear. Or, they perhaps should do the obvious and offer it as an option for potential customers. They could also incorporate a small hot/dry galley option where the restroom up front was situated. That way, the PC-24 would have even more mass appeal for those who do and don't require or need the flexibility of having the rear cargo space. We must remember that the PC -24's main selling point is that it can access airfields that its main rivals like Embraer's Phenom 300, Cessna's CJ4, and the nimble HondaJet Elite can't. In my opinion, that would be a win, win situation - hands down - for Pilatus. I hope their R&D team is reading these comments and taking notes.

I think the main reason for the placement of the restroom was that in the back it would either get in the way or end up being blocked by baggage. The plane was designed with a variable size cargo area. Want more room for stuff? just remove the rear seats. So where to put it? Oposite of the cargo door? Worst spot, I'm sure you'll agree. Even further back? Put some baggage into the cargo area and you can't get to it anymore. In front of the cago door? That's where the rear seats are in passenger configuration. So there realy was no practical way of putting the toilet in the back.

Indeed this crappy music all the time. Me too like the sound of engines. Or do they mount speakers facing backwards to drive planes nowadays? I’m pretty sure that’s not the case but maybe I’m lagging behind technology wise. So engine sounds if you please!

Apollo Awayi as already discussed there is no other position for the lav if you want to have a quick change / versatile cabin. Cessna will become major issues with the lav position in its Denali. Because you will have to choose either to have a toilet OR have a versatile cabin where you can make use of the cargo door. In a 12 or a 24 you can have it both. A lavatoriy AND a versatile cabin at once. Think about putting the toilet in the back where it will be in a Denali: You can’t load big stuff in anymore as the toilet blocks half broad of your cabin. If you get your bulky stuff past the toilet, you need to secure it with a cargo net. In doing so this will block your passengers in flight passage to the toilet. So as it is in the 12 for decades now, the only way to get both, unobstructed cabin plus lavatory you need to put it up front. By the way: the lavatory closes (like in PC-12) with solid doors to front an aft. So absolut privacy is quataranteed anyway.

Too short? From an esthetic point of fiew? Have you been inside a PC24? It takes you "ages" to walk from the baggage compartment into the cockpit. Its cabin is way longer than any of the competition.

Its good to see a service like the flying doctors using multiengine aircraft, and they may in fact fly it off of dirt and grass, but if Pilatus thinks they're going to operate the aircraft off of pure gravel like they have in Alaska without damage, they've got another thing coming.

Andy Casbo what a banger you throw in.... so tell us a plane that is Perfect in every sense and for every mission AND every individual taste! Oh you can’t? Right as there is no such aircraft. Even all competitors in the same league as PC-24 are completely different in their abilities, costs, looks, performance. A Phenom 300 is much much faster but lacks versatility. A CJ 4, popular with many pilots will outmatch both, Phenom 300 and PC-24 by at least climb performance and a bit in range. It always depends what you are looking for. Mission profile is what counts, as well as personal taste.

Nice looking machine but that's about where it ends. Pilatus have made a very clever marketing strategy but the 24 is starting to show up as unsuitable for many missions with the RFDS. The machine is VERY limiting for it's intended use down under, time will tell. It wont be used on many dirt strips, that would be rare.
