PBA. Pete Weber v Wayne Webb. Final, Lite Beer Classic. 1985
Спорт
This is the final game of the Miller Lite Beer Classic. Pete Weber is trying to win his 6th title. I believe the year is 1985...is this correct? The first couple of frames are missing because of pretty rubbish recording !

Peter Weber is still great a player to this day and his father Dick was a statesman for this sport and will be missed greatly
I met Dick Weber briefly when he came to the UK in the mid 80's. To this day I regret not having a photo taken with him.
Wow, did you hear Bo call Pete a "mild-mannered young man" around 0:14? Not so much, lol!
Pete Weber? Mild Mannered? Who Do You Think You Are? I AM!!!
Bowling must have been alot tougher back then. The first 5 minutes of this video there are no strikes!

I think lane conditions do play a role, as Bo Burton mentioned in this clip. And he would know, having set the 4-game TV record of 1,050 the previous year, which would be broken by Bob Learn, Jr. 12 years later. I'm kind of surprised that with all the powerful bowling balls and two-handed power pros out there, that Learn's record still stands, almost 30 years later.
When bowling was a lot more fun to watch. It is now entertainment. The PBA kind of became like the WWE. I did get a kick when they said Pete Weber was mellow. Just wait for it in the years to come lol
That's right. Which is why they started the telecast with the song 'The Heat Is On'. All together now...The Heat Is O' O' On... Haha. Thanks for commenting.
1985 was the first year with the big bucks on the PBA. $1 million for winning the three Miller Lite events, and $100,000 for a perfect game from True Value Hardware.
Sad that they were bowling for more 20 years ago than they are now.

top2pear listen to Brian Voss's explanation and it pretty much describes the issues with the PBA today.

The USBC is just a cash grab. The ABC raised way more for purse payouts and there was better ratings on TV
There was pressure then. I was only one, and that was before I started to get into bowling. I'm not going to sing that song however.
I agree with that statement
@bcrusher3 He might have meant the 3-6-10.
lol i wondered where the name "mean machine" came from
No wonder Wayne Webb wore that brace on his arm . Look at how he throws the ball , with it hanging down and not secured with his left hand .

He wore it because he was paid to wear it (on tv). No pro wore that ridiculous gizmo throughout the week.

@@oldsnwbrdr Im sure he did wear it all week . Seems weird he would be paid for wearing that device.
Wayne Webb got the short end of the stick in the long run.
wow this match featured a lot of mistakes by Nelson Burton Jr. and he didn't even correct himself lol! For example when Pete Weber left the 3-6-9-10 Burton Jr. said that he cut right through the heart to leave 3 pins then he says the 3-6-9-10 is a lot harder than the 3-6-9! What the heck?! Then when he said that Pete Weber might throw the ball in the channel, HELLO he was playing very straight up the lane and not even near the outside boards. He was playing between 2nd and 3rd arrows. Like wtf?!

He didn't say he might throw the ball in the channel you plumb, he said keep the ball away from the channel, hit some pins and he's a winner. A huge difference.
Move left Wayne!!!
PDW mild mannered? Lol that's a little bit off Bo.
