I will soon forget that older man with obvious bad health who still attended so many events to give his support. But I will never forget that young husky righty who was the first true power bowler in PBA history. Before him, the ideal bowlers were guys like Earl Anthony, with that smooth, perfect stroke. Mark Roth was the first guy who showed us you can move deep left and send the ball way out with big rev rate to make it come back and crush the pocket. It's fitting that his memory presided over an event where a guy like EJ Tackett can stand over the left gutter cap and send it out at 515 RPM to demolish the pins. Mark would have been proud of those shots.

this is such a great example of why urethane is not always the answer. i love urethane, but when it doesn’t work you need to acknowledge that and stop using it. marshall and ej were both able to open up the lane and give themself a ton of room, and i’m surprised their opponents didn’t notice it considering they were dominating everyone. the people who were using urethane on this show struggled and never decided to switch out of it.
