Id wear that jacket around the house with nothing else on.
How can a jacket worn by a pilot who fought the Japanese over the open ocean be worth less than a jacket worn by a pilot flying through open skies of France? Blows my mind.
How come they all believed that photo was from Normandy? That’s clearly a Corsair and they only flew in the Pacific, not Europe. They themselves said correctly that P 47s fought in Normandy. But it’s still a neat piece of history, I wouldn’t have let go for less than 4K
@traveller4790

I noticed the same thing right away. I also noticed that the "USMC" on the name tag explained two things: that this wasn't a jacket from the Army Air Corps unit that was at Normandy, and that the USN on the back of the collar was correct. Marine pilots were issued Navy gear since the Marine Corps was still a part of the Navy Department at that time. Instead of selling it at the pawn shop, I'd have put it up on e-bay or located a collector's group and tried to sell it that way.

No, that's what it should say.
I wasn't aware that a USMC unit that's famous for fighting the Japanese--that was actually stateside in June 1944 flying training missions in Corsairs--was also at the same time flying P-47s with the USAAF in Europe. Must have been really hard to be in two places at once.
With a 44% casualty rate, it's rare to find one of these as they would go down with the pilot
I would love to ride my bike wearing that badass jacket.

The Vought F4U Corsair was Pacific theatre only when used by the Americans. Only the Fleet Air Arm (RAF of the British Navy) used the Corsair in the European theatre. Mainly escorting Fairy Barracuda's in their attacks on the Nazi battleship Tirpitz.
Mr. Brown and this clip got along textlessly.

The F4U corsair was actually extremely fast. For a prop plane especially. It had a massive propeller which made the gull wings necessary.

lol says they flew P47s but shows him standing on an F4U Corsair
Guy should have said 2000.01 when rick said not a penny more
Easy to distinguish, USAAF pilots wore A2 flight jackets without fur collar, the USN aviators wore the G-2 or the M422a
This guy knows every single guy.
The photo is a navy Corsair not a P47 It clearly is an A2 marked USMC It’s worth 2k all day long

Clearly NOT an Army jacket. The name tag says USMC and the Hell hawks patch has an Eagle Globe & Anchor on it.
Talks about the P-47 and the picture shows him on a F-4U Corsair. Plus, the marines are part of the navy, not the army air corp.

When I saw the F-4 Corsair in the picture I knew the jacket wasn't from the same unit that flew F-47s at Normandy.

And no one noticed that the plane in the picture was a marine corsair even with the label on it? The Marines are department of the Navy and why the jacket belongs to a marine. Also VMF-213 is the sister squadron to VMF 214, the black sheep, Pappy Boyingtons group.
I would keep it if i was him its so cool
