@@TheMacC117 Well, the guy was expecting way less than 50 000. He probably wanted 38 000$ for it and doubled the price to make sure he could get at least the amount he wanted. On the on the hand, Rick is sure to make money out of it too, so win-win situation. You gotta watch the video up to the very end,

I love it when a seller on the show actually knows how to negotiate. Rick is so used to steamrolling everyone, and so when someone comes along who can go toe-to-toe with him it’s always super fun to watch.
This guy knows how to handle Rick.. brilliant. I always think 60% of the selling price is a good enough deal. So this according to me is a great deal.

Never ceases to amaze me with all of the options out there someone would take an item as valuable as this to a pawn shop.

Well... I wouldn't call some of these short change. Where else can they sell their rare items and get 50k solid (non-taxable) cash on hand? Auctions have fees, and are taxable. Also you may never find demand to meet the reserve price in the first place. So yeah, pawning is some fast, straight cash. In this case, would rather lose out on 25k that I may never get, and let Rick and Co stress over how to get it sold. 50k cash on hand, I walk hassle free into the sunset. Just my 2 cents though.

Rebecca still consults for the show, but she lives on the East Coast. They try to arrange to film the book segments when she flies out to Vegas, but this may have taken place a couple of months afterwards
Rick is such an actor. On the outside he’s playing like he’s just sold the family farm. On the inside he’s dancing like he just won the Powerball!
I love how strong the man was about his price. The suspense music when they were making the deal killed me lol 🤣

I LOVE episodes like this. Rebecca or not, Rick is a sucker for American collectibles and this is what makes episodes like these my favorite. He gets legit pieces, awesome and historical Americana plus the seller always seems to have the upper hand!

You NEVER use gloves on old books. Never ever. Gloves are more likely to catch and tear the pages, which skin will not do. Just have clean hands.

This is a common misconception. Gloves don't actually help maintain the integrity of old books. The recommended consensus from book experts is that using bare but clean hands is the best method to handling old books.

its not Rebecca's thing...... She's expert on appreciating books' contents and stories behind and not on memorabilia (in this case just happened to be a Book) left by well-known person. The expert here knows a lot about the person including the markings Jefferson left on his book. Fair deal at 60Grand not 50.
I don't think I've ever seen Rick so conflicted when settling on a deal. He knew this is just too rare to pass up. He'll definitely get 75k for this too.
