The price given by craig is totally unreasonable, the gun in this video definitely worth more than 8500 bucks given its condition. I realised that the price given by him will always be about 20% to 30% lower than retail, and after negotiating with the ‘pawn stars’ the owner will be getting only about 1/2 the value he should get

"I'm a gun dealer. I look at things differently." Yeah, we know buddy. Buy it low, sell it high. You're not going to tell anyone what a gun is really worth. A gun collector is who determines the value of a gun. It's simple. The value of anything is what someone is willing to pay for it. Period.

A gun or anything else is worth what someone else is willing to write you a check for. For example a while back a friend had a bunch of baseball cards some worth a couple thousand bucks each at the time, today the collector card mania has faded and now those same cards will sell for maybe $50 or so.

You've got to remember, the tall guy is a gun dealer. The Pawn Shop owners are also dealers. Dealers don't pay other dealers retail prices. That's not how the supply chain works. A dealer should expect even less than a regular customer when he walks into a pawn shop. Because the Pawn Shop owner knows the dealer for the item at a rock-bottom, wholesale price. He probably paid about 2k for that gun. I promise you. That's how cheaply dealers source their merchandise. So there's no way another dealer is going to pay you ant more than 4-5k

Something so uncommonly rare is probably best sold at auction; and even having to give up 30% of the haul, you will be further ahead than dickering with a dealer. But, it is a crap shoot, of a sort, but in the above case it does seem plain that $8500 is exceedingly low; and this is pretty much admitted to on his way out the door. The guy probably paid well over $6,000 for the piece.

LMAO 😀 I think it's funny how these two argue or disagree Everytime they meet. But Craig is a dealer that deals with a lot and between the views of a dealer to a collector, yeah there is a big difference. Craig has to compete with other dealers from around the country in sales where a collector is very limited in their sales. 95% to 98% of collectors start small in no matter what they do as a collector status before they grow into a dealer status but then there is that small percentage that have the buisness knowledge and skills to jump into a dealers status as well that has the money to do it. The best dealers out there though starts as collectors because over years, they learn more and more in what to look for.

And that is a shame because I feel sure the shop needs to make money but don't cheat the guy out of money. The only experts that I feel give honest appraisal for the items is Rebecca the book expert and the Brett guy who does art.

Boycott the government. A lot of people come here, because the gov't says people are allowed to take your house if you can't pay the bills. Even if you have to live on the streets with your 3 kids. Now *that's* low balling it. These shops essentially give you the best off the worst. You lose half the value, but the money is INSTANT. So essentially you are buying TIME, and in context of losing your house time is PRICELESS. Cause the government is not going to play nice and say "aw poor you, forget about the bills", you *will* lose your house, you can't even make a deal if you wanted to. Some companies do offer to spread payments, which sounds nice, but you often pay big extra on top of that, and something tells me the added pseudo-fine is not that much different from the money you'd lose here.. A pawn shop (traditionally at least) is the item version of a bank giving out a loan or credit.

He asked what the guns worth, not what a rip off would pay. I wonder what kick back he gets. I realize the dealer needs to make money but don't be a dishonest.

+James Jones I agree, he like many of the experts on pawn stars quote the rough price that the shop should be paying for the item rather than the actual value. So in general the item is easily worth twice what he quotes. He quotes the absolute wholesale price where craig would be buying in bulk from a large haul rather than the proper high-end auction price which is what the shop often makes.

Low balled. Any reputable estimate would be much higher. Dragoon colts are pretty rare. You need to research the name too. PS is pretty crooked.

I hate this show so much but I continue to watch it? Why do 50% of the people bring stuff to a pawn shop? I understand some people are in a bind and need fast money. But this guy has been on the show way to many times. Always bring in rare and expensive antique guns to a pawn shop. To get 50-60% what is worth..
