Thank you for this, I got this to wake me up from not being able to hear alarms. Had issues with it connecting to galaxy a series, got it working on older phone then after a week of use the darn thing quit shocking me. Got a replacement and same issue after about a week of wearing it it stopped shocking like it isn't making a connection to the metal parts of the case. The metal parts even fell off both of them didn't have to fiddle with anything to get it apart.

Maybe they have split accel/gyro for battery reasons: keep the accelerometer awake to detect motion, and then wake up the gyro when the device starts moving to start characterizing the motion (hand to mouth, for instance). Maybe they couldn't get a combined part that allowed for sleeping the individual aspects...

Nice teardown! With respect to the second shock-recipient at the end of the video, there was possibly a difference in skin conductance. It can vary from many factors (eg. seasonal, moisturizers/lotions, hydration, sweat from temperature or sympathetic response, pressure, location), so it might have been an apples-to-oranges comparison! It’s possible to see some of that directly in action by pinching some multimeter probes (with a very small distance between them), and seeing the resistance change with pinch-strength. :)

Probably not! :) Given you were experiencing a muscle spasm in response to the stronger settings and Recipient #2 seemed unphased, I’m willing to guess one way or another there was less current. Recipient #2 had their wrist on the table, so the contact pressure was likely lessened (due to the stiff/springy silicone). Also, admittedly hair density/thickness could play a role, further reducing pressure for the skin that is in contact. It could merit caution (not sure by how much it could be change the shock), but I’d guess rotating it to below the wrist and resting the weight of the forearm on it would be a more consistent test case... but that’s getting silly in the “For Science!” domain of shocking friends. :P

Wet skin might help as well, to minimize variance from skin type and care.

I've bought 2. Both have stopped working /malfunctioned within 2 or 3 months of use. Watching this video to see how to break it down to inspect since they won't replace this one.

On the pavlok website it is stated that the product is backed by a 1-year limited warranty and will be repaired or replaced free of charge. Will they not honor the warranty is what you are saying?

Even with no bad habits to break, being able to use it as a reminder/alarm definitely seems useful, especially if you're someone who has trouble hearing alarms, typically wakes to shut the alarm and fall back asleep, or if you're in need of a silent alarm for whatever reason..... Have you tested having it wake you?

I have not, because alarm clocks make me very sad. But that is the most popular use case!

Interesting video.. I didn't know such a device existed. As for the difference in pain that people might feel ... I'm guessing there are differences in skin conductivity between people... so you may not be a suck, you may just be getting a bigger jolt.

Do not do that. There are specially made shock collars for dog training purposes.
