This technology isn't absorbing wasted energy from footsteps, it's requiring people to wast more energy while walking. It has great functionality for running and bicycle pathways, because people have the intention of burning calories and wast energy from their body, plus, it absorbs the impact of the ground, which benefits for you bone structure. On sidewalks, I don't think it makes much sense, you are basically forcing people to wast more energy walking. It is has great potential, but not for every scenario, and certainly doesn't substitute normal pavement (not in terms of comfort)

Idea is interesting, but they are kind of admitting this is just a data gathering machine, which produces a little amount of energy. I would be interested, how much energy would produce 1 m2 of this during the lifespan. And what are the costs... But they seem pretty confident and want to install this everywhere (founder of Segway was telling us something similar, but now is just silence).

@@skihck Yes, I know. I only question the fact that they are not recycling energy but extracting energy from people. It would require people to wast more energy than needed, to walk on a normal surface, in order for them to produce energy. It would be the "same" as me having an Electric car and charging it with a fuel generator. I know the scale is different, but the way energy is transferred form one source to another is the same, wasting resources from one side to feed another. ... Now! If you tell me, this is a good idea for areas where people do activities and exercise, I would say , yes!, beacause the main purpose of those persons is to wast energy and calories. It's not the same purpose of someone going to work or just taking a walk, where they want to wast as little energy as possible.

@@TehCruiser to me it looks like they are unashamed and corporatizing immediately and ultimately are about finance instead of sustainability. That said, I am here researching for the latter reasons to prevent more corporatism and wealth extraction. This occurs when one realizes money is just a term people use to describe the value of energy and people's individual ability to access it.

Footfall data are super crucial as it shows whether a given business is under or out performing. It also is an important metric in gauging the success of marketing initiatives, staffing levels etc.

That's not the only problem, it's a conservation of energy issue. The compression of the tile takes more energy from the system, therefore slowing the moving vehicle down - meaning the vehicle becomes less efficient, requiring more fuel / energy to travel the same distance. The energy is literally being absorbed from the vehicles motion, into the floor tile, to be converted in part to electricity. It doesn't really work. However it's okay for people as it has very little impact on how people walk.

your pavement generator is another solution to a problem, i would not point the defects of the other technologies in order to elevate yours... humans must work together to survive the challenge imposed by the planet, accelerated by humans to a point that humanity have to get rid of all forms of fossil fuel and non reusable/polution making resources. energy self sufficiency is a requirement for any cosmic civilization that hopes/wants to evolve and prosper.
