This is how Tennessee Walking Horses should be trained, not with stacks, chains, soring, and heavy shoes.

@@NoName-12bs Yeah. I think they should go for a more less harsh bit, as well as buy slightly longer reins so the horse can move their head more freely. If a rider is able to do dressage without a bridle, then they can use a less harsh bit to the walk. Other than that, the walk was lovely.

Some say this is a Circus trick! I videoed my 2 year old colt doing a version of it this summer in the field showing off to the fillies in the next field, so it can be said to be a NATURAL gait which can be enhanced upon with training. Let's not forget the flying change is a NATURAL AIR horses perform in the field too, which is also enhanced upon by training up to the tempi changes, and nobody says that's a Circus trick, which of course everyone knows was first performed AS A CIRCUS TRICK by Francoise Baucher!!!!!!!!!

Im sure the Spanish walk can be beneficial for horses that are camped under in the front to stretch the tendons and build some muscle in the shoulders and front legs. This will be very fun for horses if you train them this with +R

  • @Visada

I think so, since it's not a gait that a horse is born with. The base of the spanish walk and trot is the jambette which every horse of every kind can easily learn. I'm currently teaching my fjord horse the jambette, to let it flow in a spanish walk. He's learning it without any trouble. Of course every horse start extremely clumsy with a spanish walk and trot, but when they do it more often they know how to balance while performing the gate asked of them. Of course when you have a heavy build horse (like a draft horse) it might not be so healthy to ask these gates of them, since they're so heavy that it can easily damage their joints.

Spanish walk is very unhealthy for the horse. The classical dressage masters knew this--they sought progressive collection with each classical exercise, which notably did not include Spanish walk or trot. Look at the movement of the hind legs in these movements--the antithesis of engagement. Raising a foreleg and shoulder to this extent also forces the back to hollow out. It's a shame that Classical Dressage is being forgotten. And what hope is there now that the Spanish School of Riding has privatized? It is up to us to spread the correct knowledge. No, this horse does not look abused, but no one that cares about the biomechanics of a horse would aspire or endeavor to have their horse move in such a way.

@@nicholasgarcia399 And you'll enjoy being a circus slave instead of free? And being broken into submission at an early age, away from all your natural inclinations, just so you can walk around with 100-200 pounds on your back and entertain people? I'm sorry but being bathed and groomed does not justify animal abuse.

@@azzusen4198 From a very early age, horses must be broken into what's considered a state of learned helplessness. Without this conditioning, it would be too dangerous to sit on a horse, because like us, they rather not have some heavy weight pointlessly sitting on their spine. This alone is animal abuse. It's the same thing with humans really. You can raise a child to accept things like carrying heavy objects around. Just because the child doesn't fight back doesn't mean they weren't psychologically manipulated, and for what reason do we do this to horses? Entertainment? I don't think it's justified
