Paula Poundstone standup comedy 1989 - HBO One Night Stand
Комедия
Paula Poundstone's half hour standup comedy special from 1989 is personal, political, absurd yet down-to-Earth, and just plain funny. Paula was the lighter side of such comedy specials in the late 80's, despite her clever edginess. This video includes the program intro before her routine, and HBO programming previews afterwards for maximum late 80's nostalgia. 30 years ago at the time of uploading!
Technical: Recorded on a RCA VLT386 VHS VCR in SP mono onto a Vision brand tape via average cable signal. Upconverted to 1080p60 to preserve image quality. Audio denoised and boosted, and luminance corrected.

Paula Poundstone is one of my all time favorite comedians and I wish there were a lot more of her stand-up available. The way she uses her voice, her body...I just cant get enough of her.
My fav when she gets a heckler “ it’s ok ill handle this”
For me, PAULA POUNSDSTONE, GOAT OF Comediennes. True blue intelligent & breath of fresh air humor.
I love this woman's mind. She is so calmly funny and imaginative. I love how she just takes some thought and wanders and wanders into absurdity.

I adore Paula. If I ever win on "Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me", it's Paula's voice I want on my voice mail! (Maybe saying "Ma'am - I'll handle this." - lol)

She paved the path for other female comedians. Love this woman❤️
I have been looking for this performance for years after seeing here in uk in 1990/1991 .. made me laugh just as much now as then . Thank you 👍
Paula rocked & worked the room in Connecticut. Awesome. She incorporates things so well eclectically. Smart comedy, intellectual
The '80s wasn't a very good decade for comedy (though it was the best decade IMO for music), but Paula Poundstone was absolutely one of the exceptions to that rule. Her comedy was sharp and insightful even in the decade of cheeseball comedy and she's still the first name I think of whenever someone tries to say that women can't be funny. Thank you for posting this.

I respectfully disagree. Comedy flourished in the 80's and comedy clubs flourished as well. Maybe you were in prison during the 80's but in San Francisco we had Cobb's Comedy Club and The Punch Line who featured Robin Williams and every stand up comic working. I think you should go online and do the research. No decade before or since was as good for stand-up comedians than the 80's.

Paula Poundstone.....What a classy lady!....Here I am surfing youtube and bored to hell. Then I see this funny woman's picture on the right of my screen. I've heard about her on NPR's Wait Wait show. I click on the picture. Wellah....I'm watching this woman's comedy show. Videoing from a club in San Fran. I'm on my couch. Hurt my knee early on in the day. Am in pain, having a few Jack Daniel's to "Kill" the pain. This woman had me laughing my azz off!! to a point where I had to move my injured knee a bit. Because I was slapping it when she hit the punch line!!... Ms. Paula Poundstone......Thanks for making me laugh. And forgetting the pain in my knee! You're quite the Lady! :>)
This is great! Lovelovelove Paula Poundstone, and it's really fun to see the old graphics and bumper material. Thank you!
Absolute hilarious and brilliant!!! LOVE HER!
I always love hearing / seeing PAULA ! She just right .
Even in the beginning she was like no other. And just got better and better. She talks about common things in an obtuse way. Like Seinfeld on different. She circle back to a joke from 20 minutes prior. Brilliant mind. 2006 Bravo segment is fabulous.

I used to love HBO One Night Stands so much as a kid! At almost 50, I still reference , " Long about noon when your appetite's pokin at ya pokin at you" all the time 🤣🤣🤣
"I don't drink." yikes at that foreshadowing. but not criticizing...in fact she is one of the best comedians on the planet

That and she doesn't think she'll ever have kids, caught my attention as well. And yes, she is effing hilarious, even when she talks about her child endangerment plea and alcoholism recovery.
In this 1989 show she said she doesn't drink and would probably never have children. I just watched another show of hers, from 2006, in which she spoke about going to rehab for her drinking problem and of her three children. Life is strange.
Class and wit... LOOOOOVE me some Poundstone with a long "O!" 😂🤣🤣😍👍👍
The best white female stand-up / slouch about / lay down comedian ever! I'm so glad she exists. None of that super-clichéd "men are like this and all want that"-nonsense. Thank you ever so for this excellent upload! Wow, just read about the effort you put into converting and uploading, am awed. Subscribed. Thank you very much indeed!

I grew up on Paula Poundstone, Elaine Boosler & Rosie O'Donnell. Not many female comics out there that don't rely on raunchy humor for every, single bit like these ladies did. Oh yeah, Kathleen Milligan is friggin' hilarious too!

I absolutely love Paula Poundstone. She's one of my favorite comediennes of all time. I love it when she wears those suits and ties and tuxedos when she does her stand up specials.
late 80's humor "The coffee was so bad, I thought it was poisoned, so I actually spit it out!" audience: OH MY GOD AHAHAAAAA POISON COFFEE BUT IT WAS JUST BAD HAHAHAAA

This is the most 80's shit.
good stuff, sirhan sirhan is still alive and still in jail. he's been denied parole 16 times, the last in 2021, after 53 years in jail he was awarded parole, 2 of kennedy's kids supported it, 6 did not, governor newsom denied his parole, sirhan is 78 years old (2022). i live in florida and you frequently see signs that say, "do not feed or molest alligators." i had the same reaction, "do i not know the real definition of molestation?"
Hahahahahhaa the cats

This is the first time I'm seeing this special...and I'm SHOCKED to see that "no mleste" joke, which I've heard Tig Notaro do throughout the 2010's. So Tig stole that bit. I like both of these women's comedy, but I'm shocked she stole that bit!
what a lovely woman

I SAID LETS GO
The streets are alive with the sound of screaming, as the bus goes right by your nose, oh no! This happened when I was a metro bus driver. She could have stepped out of her car on the sidewalk side, but did she? No. Right out into the street, with a bus right there. Instant opera with possible ensuing fainting spells!
She’s humorous
I heard a Woody Allen influence, like @12:19 when she delivers the punchline about fleas. If you ever get a chance to talk to her, ask her about her early comedy influences. I’d love to know.
I've driven in Italy. She's not far off.
She looks like Robin Scherbatsky from How I Met Your Mother.
