Just got one in Metallic Orange/Rosewood. My first PRS and I'm still adjusting to the neck & scale but I absolutely love it! Sound is so sweet, like a slightly warmer version of the best of a Fender style single coil without that shrill ice-picky worst of a Fender style single coil. Like a great P90, but tighter and without hum. Like a really good Filter'Tron, but even more of what makes a Filter'Tron great. Love Paul, he and his staff are constantly thinking, testing and innovating like no one since Leo Fender.

I'm sure that it's an awesome guitar, but i would say that bass response is more on the humbucker thing. John Mayer has a video where he tries (and achieve) to show us how the silver sky SE feels and response playing the 6th string. I want to disagree with this so bad, because I absolutely love PRS, but you are right, these sound like humbuckers. Mind you, they are fantastic sounding humbuckers, but still doesn't have the high end twang of a single coil. it also very much has the body and resonance of a humbucker, which you wouldn't have with a single coil. It is possible that the audio translation of this video has something to do with it, or maybe even has the tone rolled off a little.

Since the guitar has a pickguard, i would guess some people will get custom pickguards and replace the humbuckers with real single coils so some of these pickups might find their way into the 2nd hand market, it is unlikely that PRS would sell aftermarket SE Pickups.

Kinda single coil like but with more midrange. So it’s a variation on any other none single coil that’s supposed to sound like a single coil. Ergo it does not sound like a good single coil. It’s muted by comparison. For starters these are hum cancelling. Hey I like the variations, but single coil sounds these are not. Just play along side a Strat or Tele and the difference is quite stark. 🤷‍♂️

I couldn't agree more. The difference is day and night. I bought a 2015 Fender American Delux HSS . It's a beautiful guitar , which came with the Shawbucker and N-3 noiseless pickups. Those pickups sound pretty spot on to this PRS demonstration. And that's why it stays in the case. Muted, almost no fidelity. I remember thinking something was wrong with this tone pot .

Got one of the first coming in here (orange/maple) to complement my Fiore (my favorite guitar of all times). It is fantastic. Of course do these pickups sound like single-coils, just not like every single coil ever made, which differ greatly. They are not as bright as 50s or late 60s / early 70s single coils. but they are not darker than some early 60s ones, and definitely not darker than Texas Specials. I do have a Fender CS strat with Texas Specials and it is definitely darker and barkier than the NF3. The clarity and attack of the NF3 pickups is definitely single coil territory. Neither P90s nor humbuckers sound like that.

I have one of the original NF3's from a dozen or so years ago and it is one of the few guitars I will never sell. Its all the STratty goodness with no hum and with some dirt you can push it into its own thing that nothing else sounds like.

Since PRSs are so unaffordable, I’ll wait for the knockoffs. And/or build my own with knockoff pickups. Or why not just the old school gold and silver pickups?

This guitar is not unaffordable. Street price for these is between $750 and $790.

Are the necks on these made out of green wood?

They really don't sound just like a single coil the comparison against even a SE silver sky you can tell it's different. Let alone a set of stacked single coils by Seymour Duncan or even lace sensor which sounds closer than this

PRS just keeps pushing things forward and raising the bar for everyone. We all benefit from PRS even if you haven't seen the light and tried one yet.

Just when I was thinking it would be great to have a PRS with some kickass P90’s, here it is!
