It's funny you should mention The Jackson 5 right away. Paul says he originally wrote this for Michael Jackson and told him so but didn't hear back from him after a couple of years, so Paul recorded it himself. Quincy Jones heard the song after the release of London Town. He suggested it to Jackson for Off The Wall, unaware that McCartney had already offered it to the singer. If it sounds very familiar, you may have been listening to Off The Wall.

Seeing you not realize you've probably heard the Michael Jackson version is like I'm watching a movie and the characters can't see the villain is right behind them! 😃 Anyway, according to Wikipedia, it's only Paul, Denny, and Linda on this song. A far cry from the sparse production by the three on Band on the run!

The basic track for this song was done on Valentine's Day - February 14th, 1977. Jimmy McCulloch and Joe English are both on this track (guitar and drums). Paul does the lead vocal... with Paul, Linda & Denny on the backing vocals. Paul plays acoustic and electric guitar, bass, synth and some piano. Linda plays organ and Denny plays acoustic and electric guitar. Mike Vickers (who was a member of the Manfred Mann band) conducted the orchestra part that was added in December of 1977.

As far as I know Jimmy and Joe aren't on the finished track. Maybe they started it in February 1977 but re-recorded it at a later date (Late 1977-Early 1978)

Michael didn't do the middle 8 section on his recording. Of course, Michael and Paul did three songs together, including my second favorite video, "Say Say Say". Paul uses his falsetto voice again in the song "So Bad", from the Pipes of Peace album.

As others stated, he did offer it to Jackson at a party in 75. I like Jackson's version but McCartney's finished version is so much better to my ears.

This demo is cool. I like the way he's singing it. Im on the fence with the two versions. Love the Off The Wall production as a whole. Quincy Jones made amazing records. Off The Wall is a great album to test a sound system with. Drums and bass are so nice!!

Michael Jackson released his version as a single in the UK 🇬🇧..no it's not Denny it's Paul.. Hey Maybe I'm Amazed check out 2 lost or forgotten Wings albums Japanese Tears which was released by Denny which were Wings songs not released which came out after Wings broke up . And the forgotten classic which was released by Paul's brother Mike..The Album MCGEAR. Paul and Mike wrote most of the songs together and has Wings as the backing Band..the Album cover is superb and was produced by Paul in 1974 after Band On The Run You will think it is Paul singing.. You will not be disappointed..please..
