    It’s important to note that at that point Paul had been trying to get his own songs back for decades and out of nowhere Michael says I’m going to get your songs Paul could have gotten them himself he resented having to pay absurd sums of money for what was rightfully his anyways

    But it's not his if he has allowed or sold them etc. They were not stolen from him, he knew he could buy them, he knew the value would go up. He saw Michael buy them and then blamed him for it.

    That's only part of the story. Paul was offered the songs for $20m, but he felt bad about owning them himself because they're Lennon/McCartney songs, not McCartney songs. So he rang up Yoko to see if she'd split it with him 50/50, and she wanted to try to work it down to $10m. Well... off the back of Thriller, Michael Jackson had the money to buy all the songs for himself for $50m...

    @@martygough Actually, Paul and Yoko were negotiating it at the time, Michael Jackson just had the money to snipe them for nearly 3x the price of the initial offer behind their back. The only reason Paul didn't buy them for himself was because they were Lennon/McCartney songs, not just his, so he didn't feel it was morally correct which is why he got Yoko in on it. What Michael did was underhanded and slimy, and licensing those songs to advertisers after The Beatles built that empire without once selling out to advertisers is just...

    Okay seeing this take pop up a lot, so I just feel the need to set the record straight. Paul was offered the songs for $20m, but because they were Lennon/McCartney compositions, he didn't think it was morally correct for him to own them all himself. So he went to Yoko to split it 50/50, and she was certain they could work it down to $10m. It was during this time Michael cam in and bought the songs for $50m. At first, Paul actually believed Michael would be a good fit to hold onto and protect the songs, that he was historically placed to give 'The Beatles' a good deal. But then Michael started licensing them out to advertisers for use in commercials. The Beatles never ONCE sold out to advertisers in their entire history, even turning down MASSIVE deals in 1964 or later when Apple was hemorrhaging money. It was only then that Paul McCartney took issue with the ownership and tried to talk to him about how he was running the company. But... Michael would repeatedly blank him on it. When he was finally able to talk to him about it, Michael told him "that's just business, Paul" and brushed him off. What Michael did was sneaky, underhanded and in no way defensible.

  • @hardwoodthought1213

    @hardwoodthought1213

    On what planet was it sneaky? Paul and his band signed a deal giving up rights to the songs. They became free for anyone to buy on the open market, which MJ did. What he then does with them is down to him, the owner. Maybe Paul shouldn’t have been so cheap.

  • @piratetape

    @piratetape

    @@hardwoodthought1213 "Paul and his band signed a deal giving up rights to the songs." No they didn't... they were pushed into publishing their songs to Northern Songs in early 1963 when they were like 20, they were then sold later without their consent. $20m was the starting negotiating price, Michael Jackson dropped $50m because he could afford to, and kept others from bidding against him (which Paul may have had he even known about it). Michael totally sniped him, and that's a very sneaky move.

    Just like a Jehova witness without a birthday party or a call Christmas 🎁. Not a a wonder Mike Jackson turned out weird. No birthday party or anything else that they celebrate with gifts for holidays. Jehova witness don't believe in giving gifts for your birthday party or Christmas. I would have slapped him on the face, instead of on his back. Then he would have ran home and got those cup publishing rights and ran all the way back crying. And then he wouldn't sell the Beatles member the one of the riding members is published songs back to him at market price. And I never felt that pissed at Michael Jackson before because I knew that is Dad Joe Jackson was a strict and unrelenting father with no real love to share to his children. All he wanted was to make money off his singing and dancing children. I still don't know what I think about the whole molestation thing. Maybe the families did it for money. God only knows what people do for money nowadays. I guess Michael learned it from the best his dad Joe Jackson. But it still galls me to think that Michael Jackson would not sell his music publishing rights back to the original Lennon & McCartney the greatest songwriters of ever known except for maybe the classical Mozart and Bach but whop who listens to that? You should have ran his butt home and got the the music and brought it right back I hope all learned his lessons about taking pot into Japan and also dealing with a Jackson concerning a money deal with music 🎶

Why did he have to decorate the whole family why didn't their mothers step in at all she afraid of him too? I would have had I would have a word or two or knock or two on his head if he had spoken to my children that way he was a lazy man wanted to get rich on his children's talent. I don't know if he's dead now, but I hope he's having a dance for the devil 😈

    Paul was offered the catalogue first, but he and the Lennon Estate tried to get them to bring the price down. He and John were also offered - what would have given them a majority in - Northern Songs way back in the day. But funding was an issue. To be fair, McCartney wasn’t going to exploit the songs - let them be used for ads, etc, so back in the 80’s it didn’t seem as stupid not to buy the catalogue, as it probably does today. Still, it must be painful for him not to own the rights. He could easily have bought the rights by himself in the early 80’s. As I understand it from more than one article I read many years ago, the money involved would have represented little more than what he made in a year at the time, so the deal probably fell through because they tried to negotiate the price.

    Calling Michael "weird" is unnecessary. Howard Stern doesn't have the talent that is even equivalent to one Michael Jackson fart. So he can be quiet with the insults if he was anything resembling intelligent.

    🇩🇿Paul could buy his songs before but the group ( The Beatles) were not interested. So somebody had to do it , Michael Jackson or another person. Business is business darling but friendsphip is the most expensive thing.

    AS USUAL, Paul doesn’t admit that he was the 1st to have an opportunity to purchase the Beatle song catalog -and declined.🫤
