It doesn't exceed the two minute mark by more than a few seconds but it has considerably more than two chords. I've been lucky enough to see him twice - once with Wings in 1975 in Melbourne. Second time was three years ago, again in Melbourne. 44 years apart and still got it.

somewhere in the early to mid 90s, i had a chance...$100 ticket, which was a chunk, but not unaffordable. kinda regret it.

Note that this song has zero percussion. The beat, rhythm and drama are provided solely by the staccato of the string instruments.

The original recording doesn't have guitar and keyboards either. It is just a 9 piece string ensemble and the voices of Paul, John and George.

A pop masterpiece. A powerfully poignant story told, with amazing lyrics and a wonderful arrangement, in two minutes. The urgent, plaintive strings take this song to level far above most others.

Great version, yet no one can reproduce the way George and John harmonized in this with Paul. People's voices have their unique attributes that are far harder to mimic.

I am 9 years late but I ADORE this song, I really admire the way he tells the story, thank you sir Paul for paving the way for young songwriters like me!

This is the saddest song I have heard in my life we used to sing this in music class

When I was a little p of a girl my teacher who was a guitar playing non habit nun played this very song for us and I absolutely fell in love with this beautiful dark song. I was in the fourth grade and she was an amazing teacher. 😍😘

I know it's sacrilege to say this, but I wish McCartney would write a an extended 4-5 minute version of this. It always feels like it ends too soon, which is obviously part of the appeal (it always leaves you wanting more). But it would feel like such a release to listen to this song, at least once, without having that final feeling of slight disappointment.
