For people who don't know, this is from the musical The Guy who Didn't like Musicals from Team Starkid! Someone on Tumblr made a really great post pointing out all his autistic traits so go to my Tumblr where I reblogged it!

Now that a think of the implications ™ of this headcanon maybe one of the reasons Paul doesn't like musicals other then just general discomfort is because he's sound sensitive and doesn't like loud music/clapping after a song

but actually, it's because he's sour-graping musicals. As a child, he was never given a chance to be in a musical, unlike Emma, that's why he hates them but deep down he actually loves them (he knows the lyrics to Moana) that's why during Let it Out and Inevitable, the alien inside him reveals what he truly feels.

  • @JDM-is-my-name

@@TheMoggFREE he could have been discouraged from musicals by a parent, if it is a sensory thing. Also, there are plenty of people who power through sensory issues if they are mild to participate in hobbies they might not otherwise be able to. Also, he knows the lyrics to a Disney song. That's not exactly something you have to desperate seek out to find out about

Darn it know i can't chose if he Had an interest in musicals before and could of been in one but never got the chance to pursue that dream either because of his parents not having enough money for it or being picked on by others for liking them. Found the sensory to stressful, like loud clapping, bright lights, itchy/uncomfortable costumes, socializing (he didn't want to be in the softball team) and practicing with others and being on a stage with people watching. Maybe he just really disslikes them for some other reasons. He did say he felt awkward seeing people dance and sing so maybe he never knew what to do during dance breaks or found the plot of musicals he had seen to cheesy or nonsensical and ended up thinking all musicals where that way. There's so many different possible scenarios!! ^^

Wait I actually can't get over how perfect an autistic reading of Paul and this whole musical is. The idea that Paul as an autistic guy doesn't relate to the loud emotional melodrama of musicals, and the way that everyone else (whose neurotypical) seems to like them in a way he doesn't understand. And then as the world is becoming a musical, he sees them all as the weirdos they are for the way they go through the world singing and dancing in this overly choreographed way, but they all think PAUL is the weird one who must be changed to be more like them. He doesn't understand how everyone except for him just knows these lyrics and choreography somehow...hmm what does that remind you of. And finally the Let it Out scene where all the singing characters essentially say that there must be a voice inside of him somewhere, locked away, that he must let out...such a perfect representation of how non disabled, allotistic people think that trapped inside every autistic (or disabled) person is a more "real" version of themselves, because they won't accept the person at face value. They won't engage with an autistic person unless they become "normal" and communicate in the way everyone else does. I love it because by putting the audience in Paul's shoes, we see how weird this expectation is. And Paul is able to triumph at the end by declaring that he still "doesn't like musicals", like he can't be converted into something he is not, and then blows them all up. Of course the epilogue then implies the allotistic zombies win in the end, but hey it's Hatchetfield. I will never see this musical the same way again.

Also the fact that the Hive (or Pokey, if you wanna be more specific) is just piloting their corpses in the way they think they should behave. It eats them from the inside, leaving no soul or brain, just a body that can't die or feel pain anymore. Similar to how "treatments" for autism range from aba therapy, lobotomy, or more sinister practices like those of the Judge Rotenberg Center (ged shocks, sensory deprivation, aversion therapy, etc), are basically forms of wearing down the patient until they're trained and compliant to whatever the administrator of said treatments sees fit.
