Exquisite performance. I would say that your approach is romantic and this suits the "Sachlicheit" so perfect! Hard to understand that this work is not more appreciated. More, please!

Thanks a lot for your differentiated comment! The second part of Ludus is in preparation for early 2025. Meantime I was actually having lots of fun with his Op. 15 "In einer Nacht" and a romantic affair with Rachmaninov 2nd sonata.:) But may I please state that my approach here wasn't romantic at all but much more following Hindemith's own quote that the meaning and function of music should be "Von Mensch zu Mensch, ehrlich und gut" (From one human to another, honest and true). So, I would absolutely not see this music as a romantic transfiguration of metaphysical, heroic or religious burden - but much more like expressing our very human interests, feelings, insights - in Hindemith's highly developed multi-tonal and polyphonic language. It was very touching to read his little book "Sterbende Gewässer" (Dying waters) from 1963 (!) where he is almost desperately defending "natural, real human" expressions in tonality against "synthetical" music made of serial technique and/or by electrical machines. Maybe his criticism is going much too far there and he was suffering from some kind of postwar desolation. But amongst other aspects it showed me that "Sachlichkeit" could never mean callousness in any way. Like it is actually obvious when you look at the paintings of Dix, Grosz, Beckmann, Woods etc.
