I watched Mac O'Grady hit golf balls for a long time at The Memorial Tournament in the late 80's. I was a young guy/"kid" who had dreams of playing the tour, at the time. lol I will never forget it. I imagine it would be similar to someone who watched Moe Norman or Ben Hogan back in the day. Even amongst all the great players back then, I could tell he was a cut above in the swing and ball striking department. It was so effortless and beautiful. I even remember that Dan Forsman was watching him, and he told Forsman that he was staying at the Holiday Inn for the week, and they wanted to get together for dinner that night. I only remember all of this because of how mesmerized I was watching him hit balls. This was back when you could get REALLY close to players. Different times....but great times.

Great stuff Mark! I just recently stumbled across your stuff based on a segment you did about Rory McIlroy's swing. I am a student of the game, always trying to learn more about the swing, and having guys on the channel like Paul Gorman is great. I highly recommend you check out teaching professional Scott Cowx; amazing instructor.

Wow, played today in 45* weather, used your strong left hand grip @ 28:20 for my driver.... Best drives I hit all year out of 120 rounds of golf Long and straight, no manipulating hands/wrists , just turn and swing thru.... Fantastic tip! Thank you! Didn't use it on my irons yet....

I have found the eye line when setting up is important ,tilting so eye line is out to the right for a draw ,to the left fade ,slicer generally have shoulders and eye line left .Noted that jack turned his head to the right before he started his swing. This is on one of macs videos.

Thank you so much. I had found the strong grip Mac used, buried in one of his videos. It changed everything for me. He explained all the muscles and ligaments that must move with a weak grip. "Too difficult" he said. Absolute gold! Thank you for including this in your video. I weep at the years I wasted playing with a weak grip because it was "recommended."

Hooks/Fades tend to result from path more than pressures (macro vs micro effects). For example, if you tend to hook it is most likely related to something outside of the hands, more likely the path back and through, unless you have a very strong grip, and don't make the necessary alterations to make this work. I advocate soft arms and hands when playing. Give it a shot though and maybe it would be useful to you.

Love the video - i think most rec golfers would greatly benefit from a stronger grip because they are spending more time sitting down and in a hunch postion. so strong is actually anatomically neurtral

Was there a recent discussion about the feet as braking systems and pointing the front or rear foot more “straight” affects ground forces vs flared out creating sag or sway?

I love Mac. But seriously, heis imitation of Nicklaus during this seems like he ignoring the fact that Jack won 16 majors and a ton pf pther tournaments. Facts: Jack was one of the best long iron players ever! Make your own conclusions. Mac's videos are great but so was Jack!
