His finger was slightly misaligned which made Gilbert goof a note or two. Which is what I believe the look was about. Gilbert is pretty chill and it looked like he didn't really care lol.

this song is absolutely fantastic! does anybody know why he is wearing that things on his ears? prevent deafness? i really dont know pleasy tell me. anyway awesome vid, paul gilbert is amazing.

brasamaan he's slightly deaf so he's wearing ear defenders with in ear monitors underneath, although nowadays he just wears ear plugs and his band adapt their playing around his tempo

Probably because you don't understand it's place in rock music. Which is fine. People can't know everything. But it has one, or people wouldn't do it.
