Paul Elie Interviews Marilynne Robinson

Paul Elie of Farrar, Strauss and Giroux interviews Marilynne Robinson about her influences, her literary work, and her themes on politics and religious thought, particularly Protestantism in America and the sustainability of religious tolerance. Dr. Robinson is a graduate of Brown University and the author of three novels, 'Housekeeping' (1981), 'Gilead' (2004) and 'Home' (2008). She won the Pulitzer Prize for 'Gilead' in 2005. She is also the author of a book about nuclear pollution in England and numerous other essays.
The event was held in Riggs Library on April 6, 2009 and was sponsored by the Office of the President. It is the third discussion in a series with Paul Elie.

I love this woman. Listening to her makes me feel more understanding, intelligent and simply a better person than I am.

What I wouldn’t give to sit and learn from this woman. I hope her students appreciate their gift! I’ve found myself reading, re-reading and reading again the simple and beautiful Gilead. Wanting her honesty in writing and observation to rub off on me.
