Drink some olive oil with a squeeze of lemon - it’s Paul Anka Day! We’re at the end of the Canadian quota, as Paul teaches us about The Rat Pack, The Mob, and Moose Jerky. Because, in the words of Richard Ehrlich, “this body is not a fluke.

Saw Paul and his wife at The Beverly Hills Hotel Polo Lounge with his lovely wife. They were having a drink before a wedding in the formal dining room. I was with my daughter who is a great fan of Jason and Amanda Anka Bateman and I knew Paul from running Barneys stores. Paul would always come in on Saturdays when he was in NYC and he would serenade us. He was so lovely and friendly as we chatted for about 15 minutes and my daughter said that night I hummed his songs the whole night in my sleep😂🤣🥰. Love you Paul Anka!
Paul McCartney: "And now we'd like to do a song by our favorite American group, Sophie Tucker." Sure, it's an outdated fat joke, but I love that Paul Anka referenced that joke and none of the guys got it! This man has a memory like a steel trap! Smartless needs 5 or 10 more episodes with just Paul Anka!
I will never forget the day my mom & dad came home from a trip to Vegas and my dad said to us, "we saw the best singer ever, his name is Paul Anka"!!! I think I was around 15 (1969ish)! I have loved listening to you ever since!! Keep going! thanks guys for having Paul on the podcast!! Love this conversation!
Even though I absolutely love all your episodes, this one with Paul Anka was, I think, the very best! What a life! And now I know that he's basically written the songs that have been the theme songs of my life since the sixties. What an amazing man. Thank you so much!
"If you stop moving they may throw dirt on you" Keep moving , keep living, keep singing, keep dancing, keep screwing

What an amazing connection Mr. Paul Anka.❤
This episode is up there as the top episode of this year
This is one of the best interviews on a podcast I have ever heard. Paul Anka is amazing and has a wealth of stories. Please have him on again!!!!
I loved this! I could listen to him talk and tell stories for hours. This was a real gift, honestly.
Loved listening to this episode with my parents and exposing them to Smartless.
This was so delightful. Thank you as always for this amazing podcast. I am typing from Toronto, loving all of you but Paul Anka, woo and hoo!!! So good.
Amazing...what a LEGEND! Definitely check out Amazing cover of "Black Hole Sun" as well as his 1974 live version of "My Way"!
Best new podcast in the game right here 💪 🔥 😎
I can never hearing Paul’s stories. I’ve been to many concerts for over 35 years and just keeps getting better. You guys are great, too, but he’s my #1 ☺️😍
Perhaps your best pod so far. I’ll be looking for a Paul Anka book.
Incredible episode, Paul Anka is an absolute legend.
AMAZING EPISODE! Really loved this one guys. What a great storyteller he is. It felt like I was listening to the life of Forrest Gump with all of the different places he's been and lived with all of these famous recognizable people; The Rat Pack, The Beatles, Michael Jackson's etc. Writing for Sinatra, MJ, and The Tonight Show theme. Singing in multiple languages. Are you kidding me? What a life. And what a great sense of humor. I could've listened for another hour easily. Jealous that I won't get to be at that dinner when you all get together.

Yeah, Forrest Gump definitely crossed my mind too. Incredible life he's had...
Fun!! Funny! Loved it!! Bravo guys!
Oh my goodness, thank you! You guys are amazing. Great episode, fascinating history, been a fan from the beginning, and wow! You’re all so funny, talented and real. I have so much respect for you guys. Thank you for sharing, and keeping us all from going completely mad during the pandemic! ♥️
This episode is awesome! As a guy in his 20s that happens to love music from Paul's time, it was just a blast to hear from him. I think I could listen to you four talk for hours.
How cool, ray my husband/daughters dad would like this one. They were obsessed with MJ
One of your BEST!!! Thank you all!! PS one of my favorite songs of PA is “Good Morning Yesterday”…wasn’t it part of a Kodak commercial, too?
One of the few remaining of a great era of singers. If being able to say “Paul Anka is my father-in-law” isn’t a top 5 reason why you married your wife, Jason, it needs to be!
What a beautiful history lesson 🎉 thanks for the memories 💝👏
Best Smartless ever!
Thanks AGAIN Smartless for upping the bar for great podcast content. What a charismatic and amazing person and performed Mr Anka is. It was a privilege to listen to his wealth of stories…perhaps a full-length doc is in order. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I live in Ottawa, it often is the town that fun forgot. 😂 I've even assimilated since moving here... MOBA!
WOW, just WOW
It was funny for them to say, how could we get our kids to listen to a big box(radio), yet we are listening to them on a small box (phone). Everything comes full circle. Streaming not radio, small box not large box yet still listening not viewing.
This was epic!
You need to do a Paul Anka interview part 2, part 3, part 4....
I grew up near Toronto in the same era as Paul ... his recollections all true!!! In fact Paul went to school with one of my cousins! Still love Paul to this day! I had no idea he's Jason's FIL!
Love my friend Paul Anka ♥️
His name is "PAUL FUC&ING ANKA". LEGEND. Yahtzee, Jason! [Edit: My mother recently passed away and I just ran across an event program she kept from seeing Paul in Monte Carlo at the Sporting Club in 1985. She also dated Frank Sinatra. I've never never been to Monte Carlo (yet) and though I was with Frank on a few occasions, never dated him.]
this episode is mindblowing
I'm in. Whatever the tour is with Paul Anka, I'm there. By the ay the tour is too much tsuris. It's a duets album and video. Sting, Elton, Joel, Dylan, Clapton....it's right there.
All due respect to Mr. Anka, but when describing how he wrote "My Way," it would have been more seemly to mention that he wrote the lyrics but that the music was a copy paste from "Comme d'habitude" by Jacques Revaux (a very famous song in the francophone world.)
My way was the English version of Comme d'habitude the French original song
This is my favorite episode so far its gonna be tough to top it. I felt like I was listening to the story of the real and way cooler Forrest Gump with all of Mr Anka's real connections. His voice is sexy as ever ❤
3 crooners: Paul Anka, Michael Buble, and Harry Connick Jr
Yah sitting in front of a radio for entertainment, sorta like listening to podcasts now, imagine
As Don Cherry would say... "a good Canadian kid!" 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Aw!😍🌼
❤
yeah, when i was a kid you could buy a reddish colored screen to put over the tv screen to get the effect of color tv. not making that up.
Harry Connick Jr, Michael Buble, Chris Issak.
Father-in-law being interviewed by son-in-law.
The 5th Dimension is still touring too!
Johnny Mathis or Neil sadaka or any one of those would work ... Reach out to Lady Gaga with what her and Tony Bennett did together I bet Paul and her could find others to bring together
Are you having my baby? What a lovely way of saying how much you love me. I doubt that Paul could pull that act off now at 82. Even with viagra.
I think Paul should do a duet with Adele
Will Arnett has a veeery sexy voice 😃 Live Sean & Jason 💜💛🩵
Hey guys, have you thought about Kate Middleton? Piano!!!!!
🇨🇦
I need video. I like the max show .
You hear Charles Barkley singing my way ?
WKBW 1520 on your dial.
He's in and out in and out in and out.......
