Sitting and thinking after a major life event at midnight. Welcome to soulful southern gospel music.

This is hymnal music. Won't ever find this in 'on the wall' Church singing. Like others have said, it's a common funeral song. Lovely rendition.

I've never heard Patty sing this before. My favorite has always been Alan Jackson, but she brings so much soul to this song. Now I want to hear the rest of the songs in her gospel album. Thanks Ed and Don.

Ed, one of my all time favorites. I really love it by Skeeter Davis from old long time ago. Alan Jackson does a nice job with it too.

This song is one of my favorites. I have heard many artists sing this and do a great job with it. Patty’s might be the best!!

Thank you, Ed, for this request. I'm old, old school (older than dirt), so I knew this hymn. What was new to me was Patty's rendition of it. She has the presence of voice and the heart to sing this song with such impact. Thanks so much again and a big shout out to you Don, for his review!

Hi Phyliss, Glad you enjoyed Patty’s version. She has more soul in her little finger than 99% of all the country music artists have in their entire bodies. If you aren’t convinced, then go listen to “ You’ll Never Leave Harlan Alive”. As always, love to read your posts. Be well my friend.

She is one of the greatest, in my opinion.

Patty sang this on the Opry in Nov 2007, dedicating it to one of her mentors who had recently passed away, Porter Waggoner. The Opry video is available. I'm pretty sure this audio is from that.

Thank you so much Montauk Ed for this excellent request! Everybody knows I'm a card carrying Patty fan, but her version of this song takes it to a level where I can no longer imagine any other version. Thanks Don for the insightful and thoughtful reaction, and for the appropriate rating!

You’re welcome Terry. I think most of us appreciate Patty for the consummate country music singer/performer that she is.

She also sang with Vince Gill Go rest High on That Mountain, which is another song of memory of lost loved one up in heaven

This is a popular old hymn. Southern gospel. There are other verses and it is about the memories of those we love who have gone on to heaven. To see them again someday

This is an old gospel song from the 1920's. I've heard lots of versions, but Patty's is probably at the top of the list. But then again, Patty could sing the phone book and it would still be beautiful! Thank you Ed and Don!

Thank you Ed for this request of a great artist. This song was written J.B.F. Wright in 1925. It was first recorded in 1928 by The Turkey Mountain Singers. It has been covered by The Carter Family, Johnny Cash, Alan Jackson among others. You can find this one on Patty's gospel album 'How Great Thou Art' released in 2008. Thanks Don for the reaction
