New Andrew Lloyd Webber Musical School of Rock Opens on Broadway Tonight
By Robert Viagas
06 Dec 2015
School of Rock - The Musical, the first new Andrew Lloyd Webber show to open on Broadway in a decade, officially opens Dec. 6 at the Winter Garden Theatre, where his Cats ran for nearly 18 years, following previews that began Nov. 9.

The musical is based on the popular 2003 Paramount Pictures film about down-and-out rock guitarist Dewey Finn, who takes a job as a substitute teacher. But instead of sticking to the syllabus, he teaches his kids about the glory of rock, organizes them into a rock group and enters them in a Battle of the Bands - much to the displeasure of the school principal.
Joining Alex Brightman as Dewey Finn and Sierra Boggess as school principal Rosalie Mullins are Spencer Moses as Ned, Mamie Parris as Patty, Evie Dolan as Katie, Carly Gendell as Marcy, Ethan Khusidman as Mason, Bobbi MacKenzie as Tomika, Dante Melucci as Freddy, Brandon Niederauer as Zack, Luca Padovan as Billy, Jared Parker as Lawrence and Isabella Russo as Summer.
The adult ensemble includes Natalie Charle Ellis, Emily Cramer, Alan H. Green, Michael Hartney, John Hemphill, Merritt David Janes, Lulu Lloyd, Jaygee Macapugay, Cassie Okenka, Patrick O’Neill, Tally Sessions, Jesse Swimm, Jonathan Wagner, and Jeremy Woodard. The children’s ensemble includes Taylor Caldwell, Ava Della Pietra, Jeffrey Samuel Kishinevskiy, Sofia Roma Rubino, Jersey Sullivan, Hayden Wall, Corinne Wilson, and Shahadi Wright-Joseph.
Based on the movie script by Mike White, School of Rock has a book by Julian Fellowes, direction by Laurence Connor, music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, lyrics by Glenn Slater, choreography by JoAnn M. Hunter, scenic and costume design by Anna Louizos, lighting design by Natasha Katz, sound design by Mick Potter, and music supervision by Ethan Popp.

OMG!! You're SO right about 'Someone else's story' and 'If you'd only listen'?, I think that's the name of the song, anyway OMG! It's true!! I knew something was too familiar about that song!!
Sierra Boggess was in the room when ALW got the rights to the show and they put glasses on her and that's how she got the part it's totally written for her voice
The shoehorned romance is what I hated the most about Sister Act.
what did you think of Dante Melucci's character Freddy?
Isabella Russo wears extensions in the show!
If you guys had to choose between school of rock, Matilda or Aladdin, which would you choose? I'm going to NYC next month and can't decide between these three.
There are plenty of young principals and Sierra may have been 33 at the time (I'm pretty sure) but that doesn't mean she could have been portraying a older woman.
Brava as always, ladies.
NU SIERRA BOGGESS IS PERFECT FOR THE ROLE
