Oh,¿dónde has estado,
mi querido hijo de ojos azules?
¿dónde has estado,
mi joven querido?.
He tropezado con la ladera
de doce brumosas montañas,
he andado y me he arrastrado
en seis autopistas curvadas,
he andado en medio
de siete bosques sombríos,
he estado delante
de una docena de océanos muertos,
me he adentrado diez mil millas
y nadie escuchando,
oí a una persona morir de hambre,
oí a mucha gente reír,
oí la canción de un poeta
que moría en la cuneta,
oí el sonido de un payaso
que lloraba en el callejón,
y es dura, es dura,
es dura, es muy dura,
es dura la lluvia que va a caer.
Oh, ¿a quién encontraste,
mi hijo de ojos azules?
¿Y a quién encontraste,
mi joven querido?.
Encontré un niño pequeño
junto a un pony muerto,
encontré un hombre blanco
que paseaba un perro negro,
encontré una mujer joven
cuyo cuerpo estaba ardiendo,
encontré a una chica
que me dio un arco iris,
encontré a un hombre
que estaba herido de amor,
encontré a otro,
que estaba herido de odio;
y es dura, es dura,
es dura, es muy dura,
es muy dura la lluvia que va a caer.
¿Y ahora qué harás,
mi hijo preferido?
¿Y ahora qué harás,
mi joven querido?.
Voy a regresar afuera

Just imagine for a moment the courage it takes to sing Hard Rain in front of an audience if you don't happen to be Bob Dylan.
Moments like these... you realize what distinguishes real art from throwaway entertainment. This was an amazing performance. Bob Dylan did a great thing to send Patti Smith to represent him.

EVERY child/student should watch this. Every person who has ever been nervous about speaking in front of a crowd should watch this. Rock n Roll Hall of Fame inductee performing in front of, what has to be, one of the highest pressure venues (no one is standing up cheering your name) fumbles and completely forgets the lyrics. She didn't start humming. She didn't start mumbling. She didn't cry. She paused, apologized, admitted she was nervous, 'picked the mic up again' and absolutely nailed it. Beautiful. Human. I'll never forget this performance. and will learn from it. ohhh, and......the 'guy' who wrote this....he was 21 when he did.... unreal.

What a stunning performance. Unbelievable. Yes, there was the stumble but that's what we get when we have true artists performing live; it's not about perfection, it's about emotion. And boy did we get the emotion.

How beautifully intimate and human. An incredible performance. Bravo, Patti!
I could've hugged her when she said "I'm sorry, I'm so nervous". Bless her, she's adorable. And absolutely worthy!
I never thought this song could encompass more emotion, until I heard Patti today, it is made to be sung as she did. Fantastic and perfect.

I think we need more of this, people dropping their guard, not afraid of exposing their weaknesses. Everyone's walking around with a mask on their faces, everyone so happy and perfect on social media. That's what I think anyways. Beautiful performance.
I love how the guitarist gets more into the song after Patti's apologize! That made the song more than just a partition, that apologize made the song real!

She brought me to tears. If this song was chosen by Dylan, he chose well. A perfect statement for the times ahead. He is, and was a prophet.
Unfortunately, Patti had chosen one of the hardest and longest texts Dylan ever wrote. Two thumbs UP!

In that moment of Patti's vulnerability the walls around each one observing, the barriers between artist and audience, were gone. For a moment everyone was released from themselves into compassion for her allowing for their hearts to more fully open to the reality in Bob's words. It couldn't have been more perfect! Bless you, Universe.
This is breath taking and made even more poignant by Patti Smith's human response as she breaks and starts again and again--emblematic of the world we live in and the struggle towards a path towards dignity, peace, and love, that we must make for the sake of all here and those yet to come.
What a wonderful singer, what a wonderful performance. It would seem terribly hard to me to perform a song the sad words of which describe our world more and more truthfully every day. You can see a lady in the public wiping a tear and we see a world best described in tears.
only patti smith could have pulled that off, a masterpiece
This is an amazing cover. Her voice suits it perfectly.
You have nothing to apologize for Patti Smith. Thank you for your song.
Patti Smith sings Dylan. Perhaps the best thing that has happened in 2016
I don't give a damn that our beloved Patty stumbled. Her delivery of this song was so passionate and tender, that her "mistake" - and the way she handled it - makes her delivery of this song immortal. Well done girl!
One of the best amazing performance I ever seen.
If not Dylan then surely Patti Smith!! She interprets this Dylan song at the soul of it-honest, raw and real. What transpired with the lyrics was part of the moment and detracted nothing. Love your work Patti! There could be no better choice to represent Dylan! You nailed the essence Patti-as you so often do!!! Gratitude for the voice you share!
Incredible song sung to perfection by Patti! WOW, it does not get better than this! Emotionally charged..........brought out so many pictures in my mind like a fine painting! So Powerful!!! A Real Song!!

Can't get enough of this ! so touching, so moving, so poignant ... this is true ART.
this is so perfect, her stumbling with they lyrics only accentuates why he deserves this award
In spite of the nervous stumbles, or maybe because of them, I loved this stellar performance by Patti Smith of what may be the single most difficult song to commit to memory with it's complex, yet extremely poetic and evocative, lyrical content. I'm sure I'll come back here often to replay this wonderfully moving moment.

Thank you Bob Dylan for breaking the frozen sea within us .... .thank you Patti Smith...wonderful...wonderful...perfect.
One of the best performances i've ever seen
Doesn't matter that she was so nervous and I don't care about her stumbling, she still managed to bring me to tears..
Exquisite...she sang it with her heart. her humanness ..her acknowledgement of her nerves..made it even more, beautiful....what a voice...you sang it well, Patti!!!!
I've been playing this song and weeping this week. The faltering was appropriate given the gravity and the beauty of the song and the fear many of us are feeling right now. Thank you, Patti and thank you, Bob. We need music and poetry now more than ever.
the most famous 'I'm so nervous' in history !! Patti Smith is a very great performer. Moved to tears. She falters, like we all do every day. And she turns the moment into one of great beauty. Bravo, well done.
Thank you Patti. True humility ❤
If you scroll down a couple of screens, you'll find the words to this song in an entry by Alex Harris, who deserves our thanks for writing them for us. I guarantee it will mean more if you read them while Patti sings them. And by the way, the clear nasal tones and simple, unembellished tone of her voice was a perfect choice to deliver his poem, now more than ever.
Her honesty and rendering is just magic
wonderful - not a machine - she gets emotions. Superb voice. Superb dramatic interrpetation.
Kudos to the audience for showing great respect. These days that is hard to come by.
Excellent choice of both song & the great Patti Smith...Dylan's words more powerful than when he first wrote this to a world hell-bent on consumption and war...a chilling reminder of how far we have yet to go...

Inhabitantofthelake It was a poignant performance, i agree. I just hope your not arguing that her many mistakes made the song itself more poignant. It was the song, the occasion, and the coherent sections of the performance that were poignant, not Patti Smiths otherwise praiseworthy show of humility. I never claimed everything had to be polished and perfect, far from it. However, for me, her small mishaps with the words more than once altered the original meaning and sense of the lyric. Remember, it was the literary merit of Dylan's lyrics that were being awarded, not Patti Smith's Humanity. I also have to disagree with your contention that Dylan can't sing, but perhaps its better to leave that can of worms unopened.
@fenixcreciente8576
7 жыл бұрын
Inhabitantofthelake godriczimmerman, perhaps a more holistic way of looking at this is that it's a combination of the meaning & beauty of the original composition together with the rendition of the performers--always "imperfect" in some degree, but faithful to the "soul" of that composition--that create the overall impression... which was breathtaking in this case, & in the end that's all that really matters.

It is hard to sing and cry at the same time. But sometimes, that is the only way to express the full power of the song.
Tears flow... no other voice like hers - none! Thank you, Patti. Thank you.
Incredibly moving. The arts have no borders.
Beautiful rendition of this song by Patti Smith. I really "heard" the lyrics fully for the first time! Bob Dylan has always been a bit of a mystery--Patti Smith unveiled some of it.
Great Patti !!! May Bob Dylan song always be sung. The best ever !!!
This song is on repeat all day: "I met a man wounded in hatred" echoes in the house. I am hearing this song new. Thank you, Patti Smith. It is hard not to listen and tear up feeling the release of sadness that is in every cell of my body.
Goddess!! I've never been a Dylan fan, but thanks to Patti Smith, and only through Patti Smith will I ever be able to appreciate the works of Bob Dylan. her voice her delivery his words will change the world. for the better. it didn't 'take so long' it is Now the Time.
This brilliant piece of literature is as powerful today as ever.
Beautifully done! what a talented courageous Artist! Peace, Love, and Respect dear Patti Smith ♥
I'm surprised this is trending honestly. Makes me hapoy knowing people still listen to the classics
her mistake makes this performance more humane . it actually improves the song !
Tremendous. What a poignant, inspired rendition. Particularly agree with the lady at 5:09. Well put, ma'am. So glad to see Dylan get the recognition he still feels he doesn't deserve. Well...regardless, he unquestionably does.

She was real and authentic.....beautiful voice....
Thank you Patti - you reminded me of everything that is still pure and good in this world. We all need this reminder.
Patti Smith is terrific. That mistake perfected her performance. Beautiful.
memorize war and peace and don't try to memorize this song...you still killed it patti
Yeah shes a beautiful person. I'm going to have to explore her music more now. And she hiccuped in the best way, Bob would be more touched by the way she did it from heart and memory, head high rather than reading from a sheet (which she could have done) - infact, that's probably why she was there. What a great voice too - I couldn't think of vocals more fitting for the occasion. I hope she never remembers the hiccup - she will care so much. All adds to the legend of Bob Dylan .. history will remember it fondly and so well. I came to this for Bob Dylan, and left discovering another great artist. She oozes strength and love too. What a woman.
