No, it's because there is no longer raw talent. It's auto tuned. Noone plays an instrument. The word music has been eliminated.

Two top flight soulful singers.

I forgot what a great song this is. Kinda crazy how it stayed at #1 on the Hot 100 for 3 weeks, considering it was a breakup adult contemporary ballad from two middle-aged veterans in the business. That's not a knock on them, but just how ageist the music business can be, and they still got to #1. Always love Patti's voice.

CLASSIC 80s DUET‼️🔥🔥The back and forth dialogue is🔥. That "now we're up talking divorce and we weren't even married" hits like a brick. This song is still 🔥. The 80s music had much more of a variety of genres, styles and ages that charted together.

Wow, I’m telling my age , but this song almost brings a tear, to be young and in my 20’s when this was out, very special time to be young in the 80’s, and we’re so spoiled with all that great music . We didn’t know how good we had it, when two absolute legends like Patti LaBelle and Micheal McDonald get together for a duet like this! This was all over the radio everyday day and night. I remember this being a staple on Quiet Storm radio after 12 midnight ( K97 FM Memphis ) . in the video , Patti is in New York and Micheal is in LA..

FUN FACT: This song was almost not made. Patti said it started out as a solo, and the producer wanted her to sing it a certain way, with more annunciation, and she wasn't feeling it. She kept telling him " I don't sing like that." The song writer, Burt Bacharach, called and asked her if she'd do it as a duet and with whom would she like to sing it with. She said yes, with Michael McDonald but with a different producer.

(6:23)... - ...this classic, CLASSIC tune had a wild ride to become a smash hit; Produced & written by the (then) Married Husband-Wife duo Burt Bacharach & Carole Sayer Sager, this tune originally was a discarded track from Dionne Warwick's 1985 "Friends" Album, because it wasn't finished properly.... - ...they gave it to Patti as a SOLO track, but weren't getting the right 'feel' of the Song...Carole suggested it be made into duet, and suggested Michael, RIGHT OFF THE BAT....but, Michael had an Album out he was promoting ("No Lookin' Back"), and wasn't free..... - ...but the Album doing poorly, and he was MAAAAAD; He asked if he do the duet w/ Patti, and his label said NO...He said, "...well get to promotin' my damn ALBUM!" ...They didn't want to put more money into his Album's promotion, so they let him do it..... - ....BUT! ...Michael was in L.A. and Patti was in NYC, soooooo...he 'phoned in' his Vocals, and they spliced his parts INTO Patti's Vocals, and completed the track...The Video was made the same way.....released Spring 1986..... *MASS PANDEMONIUM!* (6:35) - ...Patti hits #1 Pop, R&B AND Adult Contemporary, Michael's phone is ringin' off the HOOK, and both showed up on the "Johnny Carson Show" to sing the Song together (when it hit #1 Pop) Summer 1986....which was when they first MET each other! ....I'll give charts, later....

@@EmpressReacts only audio mostly it was a private industry event and her first time performing in front of any audience. Crazy she was super nervous, but her voice was just pure power!
