Patronus | Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

Фильм және анимация

“Expecto Patronum!”
After traveling back in time Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) must cast a powerful Patronus charm in order to save himself and Hermione Granger (Emma Watson)
Year Three at Hogwarts means new fun and challenges as Harry learns the delicate art of approaching a Hippogriff, transforming shape-shifting Boggarts into hilarity and even turning back time. But the term also brings danger. Soul-sucking Dementors hover over the school. An ally of the accursed He-Who-Cannot-Be-Named lurks within the castle walls. Fearsome wizard Sirius Black escapes Azkaban. And Harry will be forced to confront them all. Directed by Alfonso Cuarón and based on J.K. Rowling’s third book, this wondrous spellbinder soars with laughs, shivers and the kind of breathless surprise only found in a Harry Potter adventure. Mischief managed!

My favorite scene of my favorite movie. Harry realizes that his father can't help him, and he has to be the one to stand up and save the day. He becomes a man in a way. And we finally see how incredibly powerful Harry is at some spells.

I interpret it as he finds his father inside himself and uses his inner qualities to fight evil. Sort of like Rafiki's "he lives in you". He sees that everything he admires about his father was in him the whole time...hence why they share Patronuses

For me it is the best scene, because the context always makes me cry. Harry was so happy that he had finally found someone who could become his real family and that was about to being taken away from him again and so the patronos kind of symbolizes how happy he was about finding Sirius and Sirius asking Harry to stay with him.

I love how any other director would've put music about victory or action in this scene, but Cuaron and Williams understand theming, and the music reflects love, a solemn tune reflecting the warmth Harry felt on his heart despite the feeling of loneliness, the warmth that in the end gave him the strength to come above and succeed

I know this is a stretch, but I did go to school with her and I kinda overlooked her then because I had my head up my ass all through Middle School and High School. If I didn't have my head up my ass, we would have not only met and likely fell in love, as it turns out, she was basically everything I wanted in a partner, but we would have likely been engaged already

Did you know we hear the same music earlier in the scene where Harry1 is powerless under the dementors, but from the opposite side? Then, the horns(=dementors) are blasting with distant chorus. Now the triumphant chorus(Harrys patronus) overpowers the crashing horns. I think that is pure genius.

This is the absolute best moment in the entire movie series. And the most powerful. An incredible example of the role that sound plays in setting the scene. You've got the tension music as Harry and Hermione are speaking, the music falling completely silent as Harry bellows out the "Expecto Patronum!", the incredible choral singing as the spell takes effect, the sound of the spell impacting the dementors, and the Harry Potter theme woven underneath the choral singing with the French horn. Then it all trails away as Harry emerges triumphant. It absolutely raises goosebumps. My favorite scene in my favorite Harry Potter movie and my favorite movie of all time, period!

However, the contract u speak of wouldve been voided since they made 8 movies (7 had 2 parts) so i feel with movies like goblet of fire and order of pheonix, they couldve spent some more time u know? its all good either way, good talk

but it doesnt help that he was the one who wanted the power initially and kind of diverted from his mission of stop voldemort in order to gain unmatchable power through the deathly hallows. I feel like JK wanted to show harry's darkness more in the books but in the movies, because it is for children, they led harry to be more open and sort of on the brighter path as u mentioned. Me personally, i like to see a character fall before he rises and to see harry sort of accept the darkness wouldve been very gritty and epic for lack of a better term lol

+John Watson gonna reply to this comment because I'm bored I personally like Harry's character on the book because he wasn't the typical good guy who's perfectly nice to everyone, there were a lot of times where I was so annoyed at him especially at the order of the phoenix, since he was really such a baby there. He was kind of a jerk there compared to how he was perceived in the movie but that's what makes him relatable, yeah he attempted to crucio Bellatrix but that's just because she killed Sirius right in front of him and even taunt him for that, the same reason for attempting to sectumsempra snape, he just found out that it was Snape who told voldemort about the prophecy not to mention that on that very night he killed dumbledore, as for using the sectumsempra to malfoy it was because malfoy immediately attacked him when he saw harry so he just retaliated he doesn't even know what that spell really do, he even mentioned afterwards that he wouldn't have done that if he knows what the spell do even if it's malfoy

An irreplaceable beautiful series with true, true magic. And an stunning character, and Every character. Oh, and the music... where do I begin? This is the one scene out of the entire series that literally gives me goosebumps. I always tear up and start bawling. Everything about this scene is so beautifully crafted: the cinematography, the score, the acting... Cuaron is amazing. Cuaron brought the best out of the actors, they appeared multi-layered, dimesional. The acting was still okay throughout the rest of the series but you can def tell a huge difference. Seeing this movie in concert with a live orchestra next month! Gonna have my kleenex ready. SO EXCITED.

The third film is so mesmerizing and compelling to me, its incredible, I remember being 9 reading the 3rd book entirely before seeing the movie in theaters and what I had saw in my head just went perfectly with what happened on screen, the cast and climax or final hour are done so well, such a powerful moment here, fills me up with great love, so many iconic shots in Harry Potter series, the first film has also just aged like wine and is a classic to anyone who grew up back then, I can't believe it all ended and they made all the books into movies throughout that 10 years of me becoming an adult

Prisoner of Azkaban gets a lot of hate for its lack of material transfer from book to movie. But in my opinion, it is the most superior of all the films. The way it was directed clearly indicates a sense of creativity. Alfonso Cuarón really had a different vision for this film that is unmatched in all of the other ones. The directional style, the character development (particularly between Proffessor Lupin and Harry) mixed with the nice sequencing and close up shots really make me want to watch it more than the other movies.

  • @Potentiation
    @Potentiation3 жыл бұрын

I used to think that what caused Harry to cast this particular patronus so powerfully was that he realized that it was actually him and not his father who he had seen cast it, and that this confidence gave him the "extra boost" that he needed. Although he did still come to this realization, I don't think it was the confidence that made him able to cast such a powerful patronus, especially since happiness is what creates strong patronuses, not confidence. I like to believe that once he realized it must've been him who cast it, he thought to himself, "But I've never cast a patronus like that before... How could I...?" and then realized that he now had a different memory to use for his patronus that could bring him even stronger happiness than a vague memory of his parents talking to him - he used the memory from just seconds ago where he thought his dad was going to show up and cast the patronus. The feeling of expecting to see his father again brought him more happiness than any other memory he could possibly think of, and that is what makes this scene so special and full of heart. When you watch it in this way, it means so much more.
